Scholarship for Higher Education
Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) aims at attracting talented youth into undertaking higher education in science intensive programmes, by providing scholarships and mentoring through 'summer attachment' to performing researchers. The scheme offers 10,000 scholarships every year @ Rs 0.80 lakh per year to talented youth in the age group 17-22 years, for undertaking Bachelor and Masters level education in Natural and Basic sciences. The main feature of the scheme is mentorship support being planned for every scholar through INSPIRE scholarship.

INSPIRE Scholarship
This scheme offers 10,000 scholarships every year @ Rs.80,000/- each for undertaking Bachelor and Masters level education in the Natural & Basic sciences, possessing any of the following criteria:

[A] Students who happen to be among the top 1% in 12th standard at their respective Board Examinations and are pursuing courses in Natural and Basic sciences at the B.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. levels. Courses are not included other than Natural and Basic sciences in the current scheme in view of the focus on research in Basic sciences.
[B] Students who have secured in the Joint Entrance Examination of IIT top 10,000 ranks, AIEEE (top 10,000 ranks) plus those clearing AIPMT (top 10,000 ranks), and who also opt to study Natural and Basic sciences in any academic institute or university leading to graduate and post-graduate degree, would be eligible for scholarship.
[C] Students admitted to Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Basic Sciences (DAE-CBS) at the University of Mumbai or happen to be Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) scholars and Science Olympiad Medalists, opting to undertake courses in the Natural & Basic sciences leading to B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees are eligible for "SHE" scholarship.

Method of Selection :
Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi in coordination with DST will be implementing this INSPIRE Faculty Scheme up to the selection of candidates for awarding INSPIRE Faculty position.
A two-tier selection process i.e. Discipline-based Expert Committee in case of candidates under `Direct’ and `Nomination’ routes and Institutional level short-listing in `Institutional route’ followed by final selection by the Apex Level Committee.
Discipline-wise committees of INSA would evaluate and screen the candidates who apply directly or are nominated without support from host-institutions.
Reputed academic institutions enjoying the status of Centre of Excellence like IITs, IISc, IISERs, TIFR, CSIR Laboratories etc. and Central & State Universities selected under PURSE scheme of DST could employ their own internal processes to short-list candidates and submit the list for final selection by the Apex Committee.
The Apex Committee shall finally select short-listed candidates for awarding INSPIRE Faculty position under this Scheme and decision of the Apex Committee for selecting candidates in this Scheme shall be the final.
Candidates, who have not identified host institutions at the time of their application, should do so immediately after their final selection. All selected candidates should avail the INSPIRE Faculty position within 6 months of their final selection.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for `Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)’, a component of INSPIRE. Total of 10,000 scholarships are availableannually under SHE starting April 2008. The scholarships are limited only to the candidates studying courses in natural/ basic sciences at B.Sc., B.Sc (Hons), integratedM.Sc./MS programs in any one of the recognized institutions in India. The scheme in its current format does not include courses in engineering, medicine, technology and otherprofessional / applied science courses.

Value & Type of Support
Eligible candidates will receive annually scholarship @ total value Rs.80,000 per candidate. The cash value payable to the
SHE scholarship holder is Rs.60,000 perannum along with a summer time attachment fee of Rs.20,000 will be paid to the mentoring institution for undertaking summer timeproject

Duration of the Support
Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting 1st year course in B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons)
and integrated course leading to M.S. orM.Sc. or the completion of the course, which ever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for once selected candidatesis based on performance of the examinations conducted and certified by
the institution imparting education.

Eligibility Criteria

I was a student of MSc integrated (5yr). I am eligible for inspire for Ph D according to all the conditions that are required to get inspire fellowship.
