The Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme aims at providing facilities to outstanding young children to develop their talents in various artistic fields. Children in the age group of 10 to 14 years studying either in recognized schools or belonging to families practicing traditional art forms are eligible for the scholarship.

In 1982, the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) took over the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in which initially 100 talented students in the field of arts and crafts were identified from all parts of the country and provided with scholarship. Considering the vastness of this country and the talent that is available, the scholarship was increased from 100 to 300 each year from 1984.

The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) provides 500 new scholarships each year, out of which minimum 5 seats each are reserved for all the states and at least 3 each for all the Union Territories. Minimum 10 scholarships are reserved for the state of Jammu and Kashmir also. While awarding scholarships preferences are given to children of families practicing traditional art forms. Special emphasis is given to rare arts and crafts which are becoming extinct..

The scholarship awarded under the Scheme is initially for two years and is renewable after every two years till the completion of the first University degree stage of education or up to the age of 20 years whichever is earlier subject to the awardees maintaining good progress.

BASIS OF SELECTION :-
Children in the age group of 10-14 years studying either in recognized schools or belonging to families practicing traditional, performing and other arts are chosen for the scholarships.
The outstanding children in various cultural fields such as traditional forms of music, dance, drama as well as painting, sculpture and crafts are selected for the award of scholarships. Special emphasis is given to rare art forms, which are in the process of becoming extinct.

About us :
The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training(CCRT) was set up in May 1979. CCRT has taken over the Scheme-Propagation of Culture among College and School students, which was being implemented by Delhi University since 1970, where a Research and Production Cell was functioning for this purpose. In the year 1995, CCRT initiated 2 regional Centres at Udaipur and Hyderabad on the recommendations of the parliamentary standing committee on Human Resources and Development.

Where can I download the scholarship application form?

Scholarship Application Form :
The forms can be downloaded from Centre's website from September 01 onwards every year and the same can be collected free of cost personally/by post from the office of CCRT, New Delhi and its Regional Centres at Hyderabad, Udaipur and Guwahati.The Nodal Officers in different states are also equipped with the scheme and the forms. The last date for submission of completely filled Application Form to CCRT, New Delhi is December 31st of every year.

My Son is studying 5th standard. Is he eligible for this scholarship?

Eligibility :
The children in the age group of 10 to 14 years are eligible for applying for the scholarship whose date of birth is in between 1.7.1995 and 30.6.1999 (both days inclusive) and studying in any recognized schools are eligible to apply under the Scheme for the year 2009-10 .

Is there any exam for candidates who are applied for scholarship? Please tell me the selection process.

Method of Selection:
The Centre advertises in the leading newspapers of the country in the month of August every year about the scheme and application forms are made available on website/by post/personal collection w.e.f. September 1, free of cost. The last date for submission of completely filled application forms in CCRT, New Delhi is December 31st of every year. For award of scholarships, short listed candidates recommended by the Central Selection Committee, are called for Interview/Test at different venues all over India. The travelling allowance to those who are called for the interview is paid by CCRT. The details of the scheme are available on CCRT website

What is the amount of scholarship?

The value of scholarship is Rs.3600/- (Rupees Three Thousand Six Hundred only) per annum and the actual tuition fee paid for the specialized training to the Institution or Guru is also reimbursed subject to a ceiling of Rs.3600/- (Rupees Three Thousand Six Hundred only) per year.

Is there any reservation of scholarship for SC/ST category?

The scholarships are awarded purely on the basis of talent/merit. However, minimum 3 scholarships for each of the Union Territory, 5 for each of the State and minimum 10 scholarships are reserved for the state of Jammu& Kashmir. 25% scholarships are reserved for the children of families practicing traditional art forms. 20 scholarships are also reserved for the specially challenged children.

The preference is given to the children of rural areas, smaller towns and low income group families. However, merit/talent is the main criteria for award of scholarships.
