Training Offered :
The Postgraduate Course in Bioinformatics started in 2002. The 9th batch of this 18-month course are now doing their course work. Overall, 75% of these students have found jobs in industry.

The Laboratory Course in Bio-techniques started in 2003. The 7th batch of this 8- (or 14-) month course are graduating shortly. Overall, 95% of these students have found jobs in industry.

In 2004, IBAB (along with BITS-Pilani, IIM-A, IIT-B and SPJIMR) was selected by the Wadhwani Foundation for funding related to entrepreneurship. These activities have ramped up and resulted in some students registering their companies. Research in this area has led to a publication in Nature Biotechnology. Details of these programmes are to be found in the Entrepreneurship section of the site.

Corporate education has been ramped up in 2005 and several modules are offered each year. In addition several modules of the Short Term Courses are offered to students and others each year.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS
1. “Anti-diarrheal and anti-spasmodic activity of Acorus calamus in mice”.
Brief Summary :- Diarrhea has been induced in mice by oral gavage of castor oil; stool samples were collected and the consistency of stool was assessed. For anti-spasmodic studies small intestinal transit is measured in a time period of 30minutes by using charcoal as marker and distance travelled is measured from pyloric end to caecum.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
1. Surgical skills :-
i. Implantation of foreign body in groin for sub acute inflammation.
ii. Creating excision wound in male Albino rats.
iii. Organ collection – Liver for acute toxicity induced by Carbon tetrachloride in male Albino rats. Small intestine for measurement of normal motility in Albino mice of either sex. Kidney for histopathological examination of urolithiasis induced by ethylene glycol + ammonium chloride in male Albino rats.
2. Sample Collection Techniques :-
i. Collection of blood from tail vein, retro-orbital vein & intracardiac routes in Albino rats and Albino mice of either sex. Blood collection in rabbits through marginal vein of ear.
ii. Collection of urine sample by housing animals in metabolic cages.
iii. Collection of fecal sample by placing animals in individual cages floor of which is lined by non-adsorbent paper.
3. Experimental procedures :-
i. Measurement of blood pressure in anaesthetized dog.
ii. Bioassay (2+1) techniques using frog rectus abdominis muscle.
iii. Taming of al bino mice by pole climbing apparatus.
iv. Handling of experimental apparatus like physiograph, analgesiometer, electroconvulsive meter, eddy’s hot plate and soxhlet apparatus.
4. Paramedical Laboratory Experiences :-
i. Histopathological exercises – Biopsy techniques; Staining techniques – Haematoxylin and Eosin; Cytology – FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) preparations & preservation of specimens.
ii. Pathological exercises – Hematological staining – Leishman’s;
Microscopy – Peripheral blood smear, Neubaur counting technique, urinary deposit and iodine preparation of stool.
iii. Microbiological exercises – Staining procedures – Grams & Ziehl Neelsen staining; Culture Media Preparations – Nutrient agar, Blood agar & Mac Conkey agar; Culture techniques – Inoculation methods, biochemical analysis, antibiotic sensitivity tests.
iv. Biochemistry exercises – Estimation of biochemical constituents of C.S.F, Pleural fluid, Ascitic Fluid, Blood, Serum and Urine; Handling of Auto and Semi-auto analysers.

COMPUTER SKILLS
1. Knowledge about operating systems (Windows XP, Ms Dos & Unix).
2. Skilled in Ms Office, Internet Browsing and Typing speed 30 word per minute.
