THE INSTITUTE : The National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM) is a premier center for research in applied and basic rock mechanics. Set up in 1988 under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, the Institute provides research and consultancy services broadly for the mining sector, hydro-power sector, communication sector, geo-environmental management etc., in the areas of engineering geology, engineering geophysics, engineering seismology, geotechnical engineering, rock fracture mechanics, numerical modeling, rock blasting & excavation engineering, mine design, micro-seismic instrumentation & automation, environmental engineering, dimensional stone technology, rock & materials’ testing etc. including development of safe and efficient mining & civil constructions and assessment of stability of surface and underground excavations.

THE JOB PROFILE : The Director is the Chief Executive Officer. He shall be responsible for the overall functioning of the Institute and planning for its future course of action fulfilling the objectives of the Institute. He is expected to take the Institute on a growth path to make it a center of excellence and self reliant financially.

THE CANDIDATE : The candidate should be dynamic and competent scientist/ engineer/ technologist with outstanding contribution in the area of rock mechanics. The requirements are as follows :

QUALIFICATIONS (Essential) : 1st Class B.E./B.Tech. or 1st Class M.Tech./M.E. in Mining/Civil Engineering (or) 1st Class Post Graduate in Earth Sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS (Desirable) : Ph.D in Mining/Civil/Earth Sciences related to Rock Mechanics/Geotechnical engineering.

EXPERIENCE : Over 20 years of experience in research/teaching/industry with outstanding contribution in rock mechanics/geotechnical/ mining/civil engineering projects.

SCALE OF PAY : PB–4 ( Rs. 37400-67000) ; Grade Pay Rs. 10000

AGE : Preferably below 55 years
