    Appointment of Chairperson Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

    The Government of India proposes to fill up the post of the Chairperson, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( Food Authority ). Food Authority was established as a statutory body under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 ( No.34 of 2006 ) for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

    The Chairperson Post of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is to perform such duties and functions and to exercise such powers as prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules and Regulations made there under. The Head Office of the Food Authority is in Delhi.

    Scale of Pay : Rupee 80, 000 per month ( Fixed ) plus allowances as per the guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel & Training.

    Age limit and tenure : The Chairperson shall hold office for a term of three years from the date on which he / she enters upon the office and shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further period of three years or till he / she attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

    Other terms and Conditions of service : Shall be such as may be prescribed by the Central Government from time to time.
