MY PROJECT DESCRIPTION :
** We have carried out a project on “MECHANICAL CHARACTERISATION OF THERMOSET EPOXY/CALCIUM SILICATE COMPOSITE MATERIALS”.
Composites are a type of engineering material that has exhibited high strength-weight and modulus-weight ratio. Epoxy / calcium silicate hybrid composites were successfully prepared using a hand lay-up technique. Epoxy is a copolymer; that is formed from two different chemicals. These are referred to as the "resin" or "compound" and the "hardener" or "activator". The resin consists of monomers or short chain polymers with an epoxide group at either end. Laminates of epoxy, with 2%, 4%, and 6% calcium silicate are fabricated. Lapox L-12 had been used as resin and K-6 as hardener, which has a property of good electrical and mechanical properties with high HDT. Laminate is prepared using hand lay-up technique, which is tested in computerized UTM for tensile and 3 point flexural test. The experiment results and graphs are used to conclude its properties and behavior under different condition.
