    Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune a highly commendable private institute, occupies a place of pride amongst the premier technical institutes of the western region of India. Established in year 1983, financed and run by the Bansilal Ramanath Agrawal Charitable Trust,Pune. It is affiliated to Pune University. Within two decades, the institute marched towards the pinnacle of glory through its remarkable achievements and laurels in the field of engineering education of a high calibre.

    According to Indian mythology, 'Vishwakarma' was a divine architect-engineer. It is believed that He fashioned this world with His rare engineering skill. The Trust adopted this name with a vision to develop engineers of high caliber, who could take up challenges of any type of an engineering job and make it a grand success, guided by originality and professionalism.

    The campus boasts of lush green lawns that provide an ambience and a serene atmosphere of ancient Gurukuls far from the madding crowd. It has got 17.625 acres of land, out of which 7 acres as academic building area and 10 acres for playground, hostels and staff quarters. Available built up area for the entire institution is 32,045 sq. mts.

    It has at present about 2800 students, 225 faculty members, 67 well equipped laboratories having instruments worth Rs. 9.6 crores and 150 administrative and supportive staff. It has a very strong alumni of students spread all over the world.

    The institute offers Undergraduate,Postgraduate and Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in Engineering.. It has six full-fledged departments having nine branches with faculty who are motivated with a quest to promote engineering and technical education. The faculty members are constantly training themselves by participating in and presenting papers at various national programs in their field of specialisation.

    Piping Engineering Course :
    Every process plant needs a piping system to be designed with care
    The performance of plant depends on efficient transport of process fluid through the pipes according to material and energy balance for a process and this requires a systematic analysis and engineering design methods.
    Over the years many such standards and practices for piping system design have evolved and by itself is a major engineering science.
    Every engineering and construction company will then need trained manpower to design a piping system.
    To impart this initial training is our objective in starting this autonomous course.

    Duration and course fees:
    The duration of a full time piping engineering course is about twelve weeks i.e. about two and a half months (May extend for free time & few more sessions).
    The duration of week end batch is about 6 ˝ months (May extend for free time & few more sessions).
    Course fees are Rs. 30000.00 per student. (Service charges as tax will borne by the students. There will be 12% service tax + 3 % cess on service tax).
    To confirm admission on first come first serve basis pay some token money or full amount following commencement of batch (es).
    At least fifty percent feses should be paid in first two weeks and remaining before end of first month.

    Course structure and lecture plan:
    The piping department of an engineering and construction company generally begins with the piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID).
    Process department prepares process flow sheet, which begins with the chemical reaction and after carrying out material and energy balance and equipment selection, which is further utilized to prepare a first version of P&ID.
    This means that one can now begin actual plant design. Going through steps of plot plan and equipment layout, the next step is to start designing piping system for material transport.
    In our course, we will be adopting a building block concept, where we will begin with pipes selected by line sizing and hydraulics of pumps and compressors used to transport material. These pipes are “connected” using pumps and compressors, add to it the valves, safety devices, measuring instruments and control components and first rough sketch of piping structure would be over.
    However a scientific and systematic approach is developed over the years and design codes and practices evolved are used to go through a step-by-step procedure to come up with a piping system structure.
    Learning this systematic science is the aim of this course. No such structure will be approved by engineers unless its stress analysis is done including stress at the connecting components such as nozzles, flanges, pipe supports and so on.
    We will be using pipe stress software to find if designed structure can sustain static, dynamic and combined stresses
    General flowcharts for piping design procedures in parts at least are provided during the actual exercises.
    Thus, process and piping are becoming a major force in engineering, procurement and construction (epc) companies as part of Engineering IT culture being developed and justify a growing need for qualified engineers to take up this profession.
