Qualitative study of rhizosphere and non- rhizosphere of Bt and Non Bt Cotton plants. The Bt Cotton plants that carry a gene from a bacteria called Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt ) that allows the plants to produce Cry protein which is toxic to bollworms, which distinguishes Non Bt and Bt plants. The present study is on comparative analysis between Bt and Non Bt plants rhizosphere in order to get a complete understanding of the use of Bt Cotton plants and their impacts on the soil health during their growth period. The three varieties of cotton seeds were sown in soil and coco peat only and the plantlets were obtained after 7-8 days of germination. The germination frequency was observed. Soil parameters like ph, conductivity and organic matter were assessed. It was found that ph of the soil was found to be same while conductivity showed 1% variation. The organic matter requirement was found to be 10% more in Non Bt Cotton variety. The rhizosphere soil sample was collected using the plant uproot method and the diversity of micro flora especially bacteria was assessed using the standard serial dilution technique. Further screening for antibiotic resistant bacteria was done using some of the standard antibiotics like streptomycin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol. The rhizosphere soil was also assessed for its effect on biofauna using earthworm as a bio indicator (coelomocyte and muscle cells).
