Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research organization under Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, undertaking advance level of research in all aspects of Geology and Geodynamics of the Himalaya. It has strong specialization in the areas of Petrology and Geochemistry, Structure and Tectonics,
Sedimentology, Geomorphology, Glaciology, Magnetostratigraphy, Paleontology and Biostratigraphy, Quaternary Geology, Environment Geology, Seismology and Remote Sensing. The Institute also houses advanced modern analytical laboratories. To encourage young students/researchers to make career in Earth Sciences, the Institute has doctoral program and offers Research Associateships to fresh Ph.D. candidates. To promote research in emerging areas of Earth Sciences, the Institute also undertakes sponsored projects.
The Institute invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for the following positions :
(1) TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, Gr.III (1) : One Post
Pay Band : PB - 1 ` 5,200-20,200 + Grade Pay ` 2,800.00
Age limit : Not exceeding 28 years as on 31.07.2011
Essential Qualifications : B. Sc. or Diploma in Engineering /Technical of minimum 3 years duration ( or equivalent)
Desirable Qualifications : Experience of working on computer.
(2) LABORATORY ASSISTANT, Gr.II (3) : One Post
Pay Band : PB - 1 ` 5,200-20,200 + Grade Pay ` 2,800.00
Age limit : Not exceeding 28 years as on 31.07.2011
Essential Qualification : High School + I.T.I. Trade Certificate in Fitter or Mechanist or turner or Electronics or Electricals.
Desirable Qualifications : Experience of working on computer.
(3) SECTION CUTTER Gr.II (1) : One Post

Project Name : -Rapid Reserve Assessment Survey (RRAS-I & II)
- Identify Lineament, Fold, and Fault in Saurashtra and delineate structural features using Remote Sensing.(only lab work not field work). Preparing other pre-field maps at GMRDS.
- Remote Sensing work done at BISAG, GANDHINAGAR
- Team member of Flying Squad, Commissioner of Geology and Mining, Gandhinagar.
- Geological Mapping of the Kachchh area (on 1 : 12,000 & 1 : 15,000 scale base map and in 300 x 300 Grid Pattern) of an area with special focus on Fossiliferous Limestone of Tertiary Formation and Mesozoic Era in Kachchh District, Gujarat.
- Developed and oversaw Stratigraphy of the given area. Wrote a brief write-up based on Geological Map including Stratigraphy and Structural Features.
- Includes sampling of limestone from surface and stream sections with preparation of stream section logs.
- Marked the contact of different lithologies by tracing them and plotting them on maps.
- Field Work done at Naliya, Zara, Jumara, Gora Dungar, Kala Dungar, South of Bhuj and Various other area in Kachchh Region.
