DESCRIPTION :

The main aim of the project is to compress the image by using vertex-2 pro FPGA kit by
developing a verilog code. Image compression is nothing but reducing the size of the image in bytes without any loss in the quality of the image. In our project we used JPEG 2000 format, which is an emerging standard for still image compression.
The software’s that are used here are MATLAB, MODELSIM and XILINX-ISE, which
are used for coding and simulation purpose. DWT-IDWT wavelet transforms are used, where DWT is Discrete Wavelet Transforms and IDWT is Inverse Discrete Wavelet transforms. DWT is easy to implement and reduces the computation time and resources required. By performing 1-D decomposition we obtain the compressed image using DWT.
In FPGA kit we use IP cores which are nothing but predefined logic which will be called
by top module. This Field Programmable Gate Arrays provide a new implementation platform for the Discrete Wavelet Transform.
The DISTRIBUTED ARITHEMATIC [DA] architecture consists of 2 filters i.e 9-
Coefficient filter and 7- coefficient filter, where the image is compressed by using 2’s compliment.
In the modified DA architecture these two 9 and 7 coefficient filters are combined and
build a single architecture of 9/7 coefficient filter architecture.

APPLICATION :
- The image compression reduces the time required for images to be sent over the Internet or downloaded from Web pages.
- It is also used in Border Security Force for the protection purpose.
- It is also used in health industry, security industry and in government agency.
