Position : Senior Scientist (Medicinal Chemist)

The Collaborative Research business unit at GVK Biosciences is comprised of an integrated team of scientists who work with partners on drug discovery projects in a variety of therapeutic areas. Collaborative projects generally start at the hit identification stage, with the ultimate goal being identification of development candidates. GVK scientists lead the projects and carry out the research activities, including the design, synthesis, and testing of new compounds. The Discovery Chemistry group within the Collaborative Research business unit is seeking an experienced medicinal chemist. The medicinal chemist will lead interdisciplinary project teams, and work closely with computational chemists and biologists to achieve project goals.

Qualifications : Ph.D in Organic Chemistry

Experience : Minimum 5 years with excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work as a member of a project team is essential.

Position Requirements :
* Should have experience working in small molecule drug discovery in a pharma or biotech company.
* Project team leadership experience is essential.
* Experience with multiple target types (receptors, enzymes, ion channels) and therapeutic areas is required.

Description : Alzheimer disease AD is characterised by the degeneration and loss of neurons, intracellular neurofibrilary tangle and accumulation of extracellular senile plaques consisting mainly of ß- amyloid Aß . Accumulation of Aß and plaque build up are initiated when the larger precursor protein, APP, a long string of amino acids, is “cleave” into the smaller, neurotoxic A2 peptide that generate amyloid plaques. Protease enzyme a type of protein, are the “scissors” that cleave the larger APP to generate A2 peptides. The protease must cut the APP amino acid sequence in two places : at beta secretase and gama secretase sites.
In this study, by inhibiting and therefore preventing the enzymatic “scissores” from “cleaving” the APP chain into smaller peptides, more focused on gama secretase enzymatic cleaving site,gama secretase enzyme cleave APP at C-711/713 ssaa position, bind drug to that side and inhibit the action of enzyme and there is no formation of Aß peptide.A way to prevention of neurotoxic A2 and reduce Amyloid plaques in brain
The aim of this project is to design a drug targated to inhibit the action of gama-secretase enzyme, leading to reduced the production of beta- amyloid and improved memory in a Alzheimer patient.

SOLID DISPERSION of pioglitazone hydrochloride was formulated to improve the dissolution of poorly soluble drug.Mechanisms involved are solubilisation and improved wetting of drug in PEG 6000 rich micro-environment formed at surface of drug crystals during dissolution,it was concluded that a rational selection of type and amount of carrier is necessary in designing solid dispersion dosage form as they directly influence ultimate release characteristics.
