Description In this work the thermo mechanical analysis of steam turbine casing will be established by finite element method. Heat transfer of a casing surface is affected by convection and temperature distribution of inner part is calculated by conduction. The boundary conditions between surface and inner area for the thermal analysis will be derived from calculated heat transfer coefficient according to time. In addition to thermal loading induced by temperature variation, inner casing is subjected to mechanical loadings such as steam forces and pressure which can vary with time.

Project Profile :
Project name : Power Generation Using a Railway Track.
Team size : 4.
Duration : 3 Months (Jan-23-2011 to April-25-2011)
Description : In our project an attempt is made towards generating electricity from the rotating wheels of a railway wagon as it moves over the railway track and engages the compound gear train arrangement. It makes effective use of compound gear trains to transmit the rotations to the shaft, which is attached to the dynamo to generate the necessary power which can glow 9LED’s.
The model uses a flat mild steel plate attached below the wagon, with vertical grooves which helps in engaging the drive wheel provided in between the rail tracks to engage the gears. A railway track of 2.5m was made over which the train moves. A protruding rotating wheel is provided on the railway track which is rotated by the rotating wheels of the train. This in turn engages the gear system.
Power generated is of the order of 6Watts. This is an eco-friendly and pollution free system. Other uses include: also effective in providing braking action when provide in multiple numbers near the railway platform, may also be effectively implied to the escalators to extract energy from them to generate power.
