This is a 3-month comprehensive training covering a range of advanced topics together with some hands-on experience of designing and performing experiments. DNA/Gene Analysis- cDNA and genomic library construction, Southern blotting, strategies to prepare DNA constructs for studying gene expression, SSCP to detect mutation, micro array, RFLP, SNPS, SAGE, DNA fingerprinting, Realtime quantitative PCR, RNAi technology
Transgenesis and knockout technology to study gene function and develop animal disease models, principles of transgenesis and knockout technology, analysis of knockout and transgenic lines.
RNA analysis- Quantitation of RNA by realtime PCR, Northern blotting and RNAse protection assay, expression profiling to study gene regulation, in vitro transcription
Protein and enzyme analysis- structure and function of proteins, quantitation methods, enzyme assays, enzyme kinetics, protein purification, in vitro translation of protein, recombinant protein expression and purification, Western blotting, raising polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, ELISA to quantitate proteins.
Cell culture techniques- Mammalian cells currently employed in research and in drug discovery, transient and stable transfection.
