Project Details :
Project Name : Purification Characterization Of “The Isolated Antimycobacterial Component”. Duration: 3 months
Project Description : During the isolation & purification of temperature sensitive mutant strain of mycobacterial phage L1 , a contaminating colony was obtained on a plate of Mycobacterium smegmstis. Surprising a clear zone was found surrounding the above mentioned colony. To confirm this observation, the contaminating bacteria was isolated & purified from the plate. Purified bacteria was grown & spotted on a lawn of M smegmatis The growth of M smegmatis surrounding the spot , as expected , was found to be inhibited & consequently a clear obtained surrounding the spot . This result suggests that the excreted – secreted product(s) of the contaminating bacteria must have some microbicidal activity against M. smegmatis.
