    Summer Internship 2011 @ IITM

    Working in the social-entrepreneurship arena in India is a wonderful challenge and opportunity. Rural India is a hot spring of ideas and innovations. But grass-roots innovators need support of various kinds-- financial, mentoring, networking, business-plan development, design optimization, marketing, etc. College students, especially from overseas, stand to gain a lot by being exposed to this "recognition, mentoring and incubation" process, which can open their eyes to realities in rural India, as well as to challenges in building enterprises. For some, it may turn out to be the gateway to a new career.

    In this context, OAA is proud to announce the launch of a value-added service for alumni donors-- a "Summer Internship @ IITM" program, in partnership with Villgro (http://www.villgro.org/). We have opened a new donation option in our "Golden Jubilee Alumni Fund" website with this title. For a minimum donation of US $ 4,000 (or, Rs. 2 lakhs), you can nominate your son or daughter (in the 18-22 age group) for a 3-month summer internship working on socially-relevant projects. This is a win-win proposition-- young and bright minds being brought to bear on social-entrepreneurship in the Indian context.

    The modalities of the program are as follows:

    * Parents to indicate desire to enroll their child (intern) by donating to the "Summer Internship @ IITM" category a sum of at least US $ 4,000 (or equivalent; e.g., Rs. 2 lakhs) at http://gjfund.iitm.ac.in/
    * Intern bio, including statement of interest, to be forwarded to oaa@iitm.ac.in
    * Intern profile to be reviewed by IITM faculty together with Villgro (http://www.villgro.org/), an NGO partner of IIT Madras
    * If found suitable, intern to be linked to an ongoing project, under immediate direction of Project Officer, with mentoring by IITM faculty
    * Internship to run June-August
    * Number to be limited to 20 per summer
    * Interns to be housed on IITM campus, but only if/ when space is available
    * Each intern will have a local alumnus, IITM faculty or Villgro employee as "mentor" during his/ her internship
    * Travel, boarding & lodging costs to be borne by intern
    * Completion certificate to be provided at the end of internship
    * Extended field travel and stay may be necessary
    * Deadline for submission of applications for Summer 2011 program is April 30, 2011
