Summer Internship Chennai : www.ifmr.ac.in Centre for Micro Finance
Total Immersion Programme in Finance and Development (TIP/FD) - Summer 2011
The TIP/FD provides undergraduate and graduate students interested in microfinance and economic development an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in working on issues relating to access to financial services for urban and rural poor in a developing country. Interns will participate in a structured, two-week course directed by leading researchers, CMF Research Associates, and practitioners from the Indian government, microfinance institutions (MFIs), and NGOs. As part of the course, interns will take a field trip to visit leading MFIs and learn about microfinance models on the ground. The course will be followed by eight weeks of field work at a project site in India.
Field Projects
Selected interns can choose from an existing or proposed set of projects or also have the opportunity to develop a stand-alone project in consultation with CMF based on mutual interests and requirements. On reviewing applications, the Centre will match the interests and skills of the interns with available projects, which will consist of either field-based research, policy/sector wide studies or data analysis. Past interns have completed stand-alone projects or worked to initiate, implement, and scale-up existing projects or pilots at the Centre. Working papers and completed case studies from the Summer 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009 TIP/FD have been published by CMF and are available on the website.
All internships are unpaid, although CMF will provide a small stipend to cover project-related expenses. All interns are encouraged to obtain funding to cover international travel and personal expenses during the internship period.
If you are looking for a short-term (unpaid) internships of no less than 6 weeks not within the cycle of TIP/FD, please write to cmfhr@ifmr.ac.in with your resume, writing sample and cover letter. Please also indicate your dates/period of availability, language skills and location preferences (if any). CMF will evaluate your application and email you only if interested.
