Training Offered :
GFTS has an average student intake of 30-35 per batch for batch for both programs (CPL and PPL). The duration of CPL course is typically 24 months which includes compulsory minimum flying requirement of 200 hours (Plus instrumental flying of about 30 hours), while the duration of the PPL course is about 12 months requiring compulsory flying of a minimum of 60 hours (as per DGCA guidelines). The PPL/CPL programs include theoretical courses in Air Regulation, Air Navigation, Aviation and Aircraft & Engines.

The present student strength at GFTS is 60 and includes 19 students from the 2003-04 batch, 35 from the 2004-2005 batch and others who are enrolled for renewal of their PPL. 4-5 students are presently registered for the CPL course.

GFTS presently has about 25 staff on rolls, including 15 technical staff (Assistant Flying Instructor (AFI) – 2, Chief Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (CAME) -1, skilled mechanics-3, semi-skilled mechanics-3, storekeeper-1, aircraft hand-2, aircraft helper-2, time-keeping-1).

The government Flying Training School (GFTS) at Jakkur, Bangalore, was set up in 1950 and is one of the oldest flying schools in the country. The state-owned flying training school offers tenured programs leading to issue of Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Private Pilot License (PPL) for aspiring candidates. GFTS is spread over an area of 214 acres which include facilities for flight training (“Training School”), area leased to private parties for hangars and maintenance activities and other common facilities (airstrip, fuel station etc.).
