TITLE :-
Reduction of NOx and Smoke Emission of a Diesel Engine with Variable Injection Timing using Biodiesel.
ABSTRACT :-
The present study aims at evaluation effect of injection timing on the combustion performance and emission of a 4- stroke single cylinder, compression ignition engine fuelled with diesel and biodiesel (karanja) vegetable oil. Short term performance were conducted on the engine using three different blends of biodiesel of karanja methyl ester oil with diesel fuel from 20% to 100% by volume by changing the injection timing for different crank angle 250,210,190.The effect of varying injection timing was evaluated in terms of thermal efficiency ,specific fuel consumption ,power ,mean effective temperature and emission measured were carbon dioxide(CO2) ,carbon monoxide(CO) ,hydrocarbon (HC)and oxides of nitrogen(NOx).The results of experimental investigation with biodiesel blends were compared with that of baseline diesel. The result indicate that the CO emissions were slightly higher, HC emissions decreases from 12.8% for B20 and 2.85% for B40,NOx emission decreases up to 39% for B20 and 28% for B40 for different injection degrees. From the investigation it can be concluded that the reduction of NOx and smoke emission of a diesel engine is obtained by varying the fuel injection timing using biodiesel as an alternative fuel.

Accomplished Research work :- Crown Ether:- Crown Ether is the generic name given to the macrocyclic polyether containing ethylene bridges separating electronegative oxygen. They typically contain central hydrophilic cavity with diameter varying from 1.2 to 6.0 A. units. The hydrophilic cavity ringed with oxygen atom, which in turn are surrounded by a collar of — CH2 groups forming a framework, which is flexible and exhibits hydrophobic in nature.
Crown ethers have been used extensively in the varies field of separation and analysis of elements with spectrophotometric determination of alkali and alkaline earth elements as well as other elements from p and f-block.
No systematic efforts have been documented for the application of crown ethers in separation studies of various elements in Multicomponent mixtures. There for it was thought worthwhile to undertake systematic extraction and Multicomponent mixtures separation studies of Rubidium (I), Barium (II) and Lead (II) from picrate medium and the separation studies of Barium (II) and Lead (II) from perchloric acid medium for developing simple method of separation, the effect of varying concentration of crown ethers, picric acid and perchloric acid, effect of various diluents, choice of various stripping agents, effect of varying concentration of metal ion was taken in to consideration. Separations were carried out from binary mixtures as well as from multicomponent mixtures. The methods were extended to the analysis of Rb, Ba and Pb in various rock samples, Blood samples yielding excellent result. The method used is simple, rapid, selective and reproducible.
