Job Description :
The CSS Release Management is part of CSS in IT Operations. They have the prime responsibility of the process of planning, building, testing and deploying software. Its purpose is to ensure that a consistent method of deployment is followed.
It reduces the likelihood of incidents as a result of roll outs and ensures that only tested and accepted versions of software are installed at any time.

Principal Account abilities and Key activities and decision making areas :
* Co-ordinate packaging and release of new software and patches in accordance with CWD Standards.
* Work and Liaise with other support teams to ensure packages are build, tested and delivered in time.
* Liaison with SDCs to ensure testing of software is thorough and all information is documented.
* Setting up software in SCCM for general distribution.
* Creation of software delivery groups in Active Directory for new applications.
* Documentation of new packages on a common repository accessible to all CWD Support Teams
* Update software related information and current status on the Application Knowledge System.
* Creation of new procedure documents for packaging/rollouts if there are any changes to the procedure.
* Testing of new releases to ascertain proper functionality and minimize incidents
* Perform thorough in-house testing of patches and software to ensure successful rollouts.
* Providing users an opportunity to accept functionality of software before it is fully implemented.
* Minimize number of incidents raised for new packages through proper testing.
* Providing 3rd line support for application packages and changes
* Perform investigation, based on problem records or incidents, passed by 2nd line, 3rd line, SMS COE, SCCM team and other support areas (2nd level), for package related issues and liaise with GLT to identify the root cause.
* Perform investigation, based on the change outcome status and to liaise with other support team, such as the SCCM team, to resolve the issue.
* Core Business & Service Delivery - To handle acceptable volume of packaging/rollout requests and complete them in the desired time scales.
* Take up acceptable number of packaging/rollout requests and ensure completion of the same within the desired time scales.
* Proper communication with the SDCs and Support teams to ensure they are kept updated with the status of the tasks and follow up tasks being performed by other support teams/SDCs.

Skills Required :
* Ability to work under pressure and deliver within limited timescales
* Experience supporting a huge user base
* Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft System Management Server
* Knowledge of packages and distribution methods
* Basic knowledge of SQL (or WQL)
* Overall understanding of the CWD desktop environment/infrastructure and relevant tools.
