TechVed Design Mumbai : Usability Test Workshop 2011
Usability is the art and science of designing systems or products that are effective, efficient, engaging, error tolerant and easy to learn. It is the measure of a product's potential to accomplish the goals of the user. In information technology, the term is often used in relation to software applications and Web sites.
How it works:
A set of participants which suit the user profile are selected and tested while performing certain predefined tasks. During this testing, each participant thinks aloud to describe their steps to reach the task goal while performing the tasks.

Following are topics that would be covered in one day Usability Test workshop
First half
First half of the workshop would be theoretical where attendees would get to know more about Usability tests and its dos and donts. Topics covered would be as follows:
What is Usability test?
What are the various types of Usability tests and which one is right for you.
How to set up a Usability test lab
Recruiting users for Usability test
Task design for Usability test
How to become a better facilitator including how to behave with the users.
How to analyse the test results
Fundamentals of Remote Usability Testing and its tools
Second Half
Second half of the workshop would be a practical experience on Conducting Usability Test.
One website (if time permits, then two) of the choice of audience would be picked up and Usability test would be conducted. Attendees would get a chance to participate in a Live Usability test. They will role play facilitator and observer. This would help attendees in getting the skills necessary to carry out a web usability test in future. Through this exercise, they would learn -
Conducting a Usability test Steps and skills required from start to finish.
How to understand website objective and thus Usability test goals.
How to profile users.
How are tests conducted? How to be a good facilitator and observer.
How are results of a Usability test analysed.
Increased awareness about Usability across organisations because of team building experience of conducting Usability test.
Attendees can also take back a recorded session of the Usability test that they have conducted, so that they can view it later.

Instructor Biography
Neha Modgil is the Co founder and Design Director of TechVed Design , responsible for overseeing TechVed Design 's operations and business strategy initiatives. As one of TechVed Design 's most requested instructors, Neha has worked with dozens of companies on their toughest web design problems. With her extensive knowledge of human factors and usability testing practices, Neha has been a top-rated presenter at the User Interface Conference, the Usability Professionals' Association Conference, and . She has also taught Human Factors at the Tufts School of Planning and Architecture MIT and other institute .
Neha previously worked at Humanfactors, where she was an influential member of their highly-talented UI Design team. She received her Master's degree in M. Design, Industrial Design, Philosophy of Design, Manufacturing Technologies from School of Planning and Architecture and her Bachelor's degree from the Punjab Technical University.
