Prohibition of Hostel Ragging
Project was taken up as part of academic activity in 2nd semester LL.B.
It has been rightly said that the end may not always justify the means. Behind the facade of ‘welcoming’ new students to college, ragging, in actuality, is a notorious practice wherein the senior students get an excuse to harass their junior counterparts, and more often than not, make them easy targets to satiate their own perverse sadistic pleasures.
As part of this project, I studied the issues and legal aspects related to ragging. Also visited various hostels and interviewed the junior students to understand the problems faced due to ragging. Educated junior students about the legal provisions related to ragging and how to use them effectively when needed.
Abolition of child labor
Project was taken up as part of academic activity in 4th semester LL.B. Project started with a study of the child labor problem in India and also involved live interviews and providing options for rehabilitation and legal assistance in deserving cases.
Child labor in India is a socioeconomic phenomenon arising essentially out of poverty and lack of development. The Indian Constitution prohibits the employment of children in factories, mines or other hazardous employment (Article 24); enjoins the State to direct its policy towards securing that children are not abused, that citizens are not forced by economic necessity to enter avocations unsuited to their age or strength (Article 39 (e)); that children and the young are protected against exploitation and moral and material abandonment (Article 39(f)); and requires provision of free and compulsory education to children up to the age of 14 years (Article 45).
Counseling of parents of the child labor about importance of education and the availability of free education was a major part of this project. Various welfare schemes available from the government were also explained.
Moot Competition :
Participated in moot competition, prepared documents for both sides in one civil and criminal case.
