TITLE : Fast dissolving buccal films of Levocetirizine dihydrochloride (LD)
DESCRIPTION : Mouth Dissolving Films are administered when oral administration is difficult. Fast dissolving buccal films offer various advantages such as : (1) Convenient dosing (2) No water needed (3) No risk of choking (4) taste masking (5) Enhanced stability (6) Improved patient compliance. It is Prepared by Hot Plate Extrusion Technique or Solvent Casting and Evaporation technique. It was concluded that buccal films can prove to be a promising drug delivery system for LD for the rapid release of the drug and giving immediate relief in allergy and hay fever.
2. M. S. (Pharm.) Research Project : Nanoparticles Containing Nitric Oxide Donor with Antileishmanial Agent for Synergistic Effect Against Visceral Leishmaniasis
Summary : Many effective anti-leishmanial drugs are associated with low bioavailability and toxicity. Nitric Oxide donors like SNAP (S-nitroso N-acetyl penicillamine) or DETA-NO (diethyl triamine nitric oxide) induces NO-mediated apoptosis of macrophages infected with leishmania amastigotes.
Objective : Previous work by the host lab on tuberculosis has indicated that biodegradable microparticles can induce significant macrophage activation, which could contribute to killing the intracellular pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The main aim of the present work is to evaluate the synergistic efficiency of anti-leishmanial agent and nitric oxide donor(s) in killing the leishmanial amastigotes in macrophages which includes evaluation of the following :
1.) Extent of targeting of tissue macrophages (liver/spleen) by nanoparticles.
2.) Pharmaceutical properties suitable for targeting and retaining nanoparticles in liver/spleen.
3.) Efficacy of optimized nanoparticles against leishmania- invitro and invivo.
Plan of work : Biodegradable polylactide nanoparticles will be prepared and characterized using different techniques.
Duration : 1 year
