Title : “ENERGY CONSERVATION AND SPEED CONTROL OF AIR BLOWER
USING VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVE”

Company : Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bangalore
Description : This project involves the use of a VFD to control the speed of a 3PH Induction motor used to control the output of an air blower. Air through the blower is used for the combustion inside a heating chamber necessary for firing of insulators. Incorporating a VFD to vary the input supply’s frequency to control the speed of the air blower saw savings in cost due to reduced power consumption. VFD’s offer higher efficiencies are easier to control, require less maintenance, improve process control and have become the drive of choice in the majority of applications. The convenience in adding a drive, ease of operation and low cost as against complex, expensive, and maintenance intensive mechanical drives or using guesswork to control processes has demand for this technology.
