    Development of Rural Knowledge Network in Orissa

    UNDP with support from NASSCOM Foundation strengthened ICT initiatives in Orissa by developing kiosks into Village Knowledge Centres to provide information within reach of the rural community with the objective of developing local capacities and improving quality of life of rural communities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Monitor and coordinate ICT initiatives funded by NASSCOM Foundation in the state ensuring effective community mobilization and setting up of ICT Kiosks at community level.
    • Undertaking special government sensitization meetings at all levels - state, district and sub district levels.
    • Developing & implementing communication strategies with forward and backward linkages with the community on one hand and the Government and UNDP on the other.
    • All activities leading to the strengthening of existing and new pilot/demonstration of ICT kiosks/Knowledge Centres in the State under the projects linked to Empowerment, Livelihood, Education, Human Rights and HIV/ AIDS.
    • Forging Partnerships with networks like One World South Asia, IT Companies like Microsoft, TCS and Field organisations for community empowerment through IT based education and skill development.

    Founder Member of Nature’s Club, Kendrapara; Secretary from April 1995 to December 2004

     Leading a multi-project team for a decade, working on Child Rights, Gender, Primary Education, Water and Environmental Sanitation, Livelihood, Post-Disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction, Emergency Health
     Developed the unique concept of ‘Meena Clubs’ using the UNICEF Icon MEENA as a communication tool facilitating life skill development of adolescent girls. More than 15000 families connected to the campaign.

    Achievements:
    • District Health Coordinator for Kendrapara during 1995-96, coordinating the first National Pulse Polio Programme.
    • District NGOs’ Coordinator during 2000-01, coordinating post cyclone Rehabilitation activities of NGOs, INGOs, and UN agencies in Kendrapara.
    • Headed the post cyclone Child Labour Prevention Project in Kendrapara for mainstreaming out of school and vulnerable children in partnership with State Labour Institute and UNICEF.
    • Managed Sneha Abhiyan Centres (in partnership with ACTIONAID INDIA) facilitating community integration of affected families in Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara post 1999, Super-cyclone Rehab Project.
    • Headed the Social Capital Restoration Programme in Kendrapara District with support from OSDMA/World Bank after 2002 flood
    • Headed a large Livelihood Restoration Programme in partnership with CARE India in Kendrapara District after 2002 flood
    • Initiator of Meena Clubs concept (163 Meena Clubs - more than 15000 members). It was matter of pride as a rural Meena Girl became the only Indian so far to get the International Youth Action Net award for outstanding contribution to youth activities.
    • Represented UNICEF in National Forums on CRCP and WES
    • Led the IT Kiosk concept in the state and as the consultant for UNDP coordinated the launch of ICT revolution ‘Mission 2007’ at Bhubaneswar
    • Led the Red Ribbon Express project as the Dy. CEO, leading a team of over 100 persons for the state which was a successful campaign mobilizing 2,73,000 people from all walks of life in HIV & AIDS awareness programme in 2008
