Study of extra-cellular pigments of Actinomycetes isolated from the rhizosphere soil of Wedelia

Actinomycetes are most widely distributed groups of microorganism in nature. The best known genus of the Actinomycetes is Streptomyces. Streptomyces is commercially very important as they produce a range of antibiotics. They have the capability to synthesize many different biologically active secondary metabolites such as antibiotics, herbicides, pesticides, anti-parasitic compounds, and anti-fungal compounds. Besides production of antibiotics, Actinomycetes are also known to produce different pigments. Microbial metabolites especially secondary metabolites with antimicrobial properties are considered to play a crucial role in disease suppression.
