Designation : Project Engineer Localisation – Supplier Management (September 2007 – Present)
This position acts as a direct link between Renault France and Nissan South Africa. All information regarding the local trim parts is communicated to Nissan via this position. I am responsible for the meeting the timing of the overall project, cost of supplier tooling, piece price, prototypes and supplier meeting the required milestones as per requirement and in time. I act as the project leader from the time Renault has given authorisation to localise the part to the point, it is introduced on the assembly line. Various activities in this project phase include :
Duties carried out
- Receive Local content list from Renault Engineering France
- Based on this list, send RFQ to potential suppliers with assistance from Nissan purchasing
- Analyse the RFQ feedback
- Based on price, quality targets , commitment to timing plan ,capacity plan, the best supplier is nominated
- All design requirements & timing plan is provided to supplier
- Management of suppliers from there after to ensure all milestones are properly met
- Milestones include : tooling approval, prototypes, design approval, receive first off tool samples, geometrical dimensional analysis of the part, Prototype vehicle build, non conformity correction, approval to build.
- Ensure that the new suppliers satisfies the technical requirements of the part
- Other activities also include – visit supplier plant facility, supplier audits, R & R study of checking fixtures, capability study of parts, Engineering Trial unit build, Quality targets of suppliers, logistics & packaging of the parts from supplier to the plant, product FMEA analysis and counter measures of the issues with high RPN, process FMEA, project risk analysis,.
- Ensure that all control plans and final checks are added to the supplier production line to avoid faulty parts reaching the vehicle assembly line and there after reaching the end user.

The PVT Engineer is an interface between Product Programs and Engineering and Production Operations and is responsible for problem resolution with respect to supply, assembly and design. The PVT engineer is authorised to approve deviations from engineering specifications without compromising product quality and hence ensuring continuous uninterrupted production. Duties carried out
- Active VRT (variability reduction team) member and in some cases team leader. Determine and implement containment action for each prioritised SAQ(single agenda for quality) concern. Includes Quality data analysis and feeding to the VRT.
- Determine root causes of each concern and develop, verify (using Vehicle Engineering facilities and processes) and raise WERS Alerts / Concerns for earliest introduction of final resolution components

Reason for leaving previous job
The primary reason for leaving the previous job (product development analyst) is upon request from the top level management due to the requirement of more heads in the PVT department. Quality being a major concern in the vehicles built, more engineers were required in the PVT department. Designation : Program Control Co-ordinator (August 2003 – December 2005)
Job Description : Analyse, establish and perform actions required for minimal lead-time release of components to enable 24hour production run when specifications to components are made at the last minute. Quick response, foresight and an in-depth knowledge of processes locally and internationally are requisites for this position, while involving with the various departments from engineering to production through the system centre, finance and supply chain.
Duties carried out
- Co-ordinate between departments on the production line including engineering on a 100% process availability, which will ensure supply of components on production line.
- Co-ordinate with the finance department on feasibility of component changes in terms of Company budgets that involves costing per component locally or internationally.
- Liase with Material Planning and Logistics department on timing for introduction of component changes.
- Ensure that the Part Specification Warranty is achieved by procurement.
- Co-ordinate all activities involving procurement of imported parts as well as interacting with program coordinators globally (Mexico, China, India, Europe)
- Ensure that engineers on site are aware of the engineering developments and technological changes across the world so as to follow suit or not.
- Liase with stock controllers on current stock to have a foresight and have information passed through different channels for the introduction of component changes.
- Link between engineers globally on design, technological and production changes.

- Extensive involvement with engineering regarding feasibility of changes.
Other achievements at FORD FMCSA
Process Improvement : Worked hand in hand (assisting) with a process improvement engineer from FORD Germany in improving the Engineering change control process at FORD FMCSA. This project involved liasing with various departments within the company and implementing a change control process which was effective and efficient in accordance with the company procedures.
Bill of material validation : This task included in confirming the parts released in the different systems, the parts fitted on the assembly line, parts supplied locally and imported as well as consignment parts. This was done due to the fact that the cost of manufacturing for the vehicles exceeded the target that was budgeted.
