Research Associate / Research Executive
The molecular modeling group supports Orchid’s drug discovery effort through the application of multiple computational approaches: structure-based design, virtual screening, library design, pharmacophore modeling, lead-hopping, QSAR and in silico ADME/Tox modeling.

As a molecular modeler, you are expected to support Orchid’s multi-disciplinary discovery teams in the hit identification and hit-to-lead optimization stage. You will contribute to our discovery efforts by applying multiple computational methodologies. A good understanding of computational principles and working knowledge about computational chemistry applications in drug discovery is required.

The position requires:
· A master’s degree in bioinformatics, biophysics or equivalent qualification.
· Minimum 2-3 years of work experience in pharmaceutical industry.
· Experience supporting discovery teams of medicinal chemistry, biology and PK/DM professionals.
· Experience applying various computational techniques in structure-based design and pharmacophore modeling.
· Experience with commercial computational chemistry software packages such as MOE, Schrodinger, Accelrys and Tripos.
· Experience in (i) programming/scripting or (ii) developing relational databases of small molecules is a plus.

PROJECT : To study the Chromosomal Aberrations by inducing Karbadust and Aphicide pesticides to an Allium Cepa in the meristematic cells.

DESCRIPTION[]: Their will be a deep study of an Chromosomal Aberration under various concentration of pesticides by peeling Onion and studying the genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of an Allium Cepa. Karbadust and Aphicide induced inhibition of root growth and low mitosis is not unexpected findings as several earlier similar reports do exist in the literature .The mutagenic effect (chromosomal breakage ) has been observed in plants .The common types of genotoxicity effects observed were C-anaphase and stick chromosomes which together accounted for 50 % and above to the total CA observed for all the genotoxic pesticides .The presence of C-metaphase cells was evidence of the action of the pesticides concerned on the mitotic spindle The stick chromosomes have resulted in the abnormal uncoiling of chromosomes during anaphase to telophase .The genotoxic effects of the pesticides as, determined by comparing the number of aberrant cells in division stages for each dose of each pesticide The genotoxic effects that were observed in the present study included, lagging chromosomes and chromosomes bridges at anaphase and multipolar anaphases and telophases.

“INSILICO MODELLING ON DRUG DOCKING STUDIES OF 3-OXOACYL SYNTHASE 1 IN MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS.”
ABSTRACT :
This project work based on the drug docking studies for 3-OXOACYL – SYNTHASE 1 in tuberculosis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis 3– oxoacyl– synthase 1 is involved in many metabolic reactions. It involves mainly in fatty acid synthesis by addition to an acyl acceptor of two carbons from malonyi-acp. Here in this project I have modeled the 3-OXOACYL-SYNTHASE 1 based on homology modeling technique. And the present study also involves the drug docking analysis between the exiting marketed drugs for tuberculosis and this protein.
Many pharmaceuticals companies are computing in the drug development for the betterment in the quality of their drugs for a particular disease. So these studies, a modest approach towards target based drug designing is done with all the precautions and efforts to have good knowledge on the drug designing concepts.
