    Projects Undertaken

    PG Project Title: Synthesis of nano fibers by using Electro-spinning
    Details: Nano fibers are able to form a highly porous mess and their large surface-to-volume ratio improves performance for many applications. These nano fibers produced by electro-spinning method and it is more convenient, less expensive. Work involves the set up of electro-spinning machine for synthesizing nano Cellulose and ceramic fibers and produce continuous long fibers of cellulose and ceramic material. Size, morphology and quality of nano fibres were strongly influenced by the distance between electrodes, ionic salt and electric field distribution on a collector plate.
    Features: Nano fibers can be used for various applications in air filtration, energy storage, sensors, healthcare, biotechnology, defence and security.
    Conclusion: Various polymers (more than 100) have been successfully electro-spun into ultra fine fibers in recent years mostly in solvent solution and some in melt form. Now the research has been going on cellulose and ceramic nano-fibers. Compared to natural fibers, regenerated cellulose fibers show less variability of fiber properties. Also, the diameter, shape, elastic modulus, tensile strength of regenerated cellulose fibers can be tuned during fiber production by varying process parameters.

    UG Project Title: Production of Bio-diesel
    Profile: Among the various methods available for production of Bio-diesel, Tran’s etherification method is used and two non-edible oils (Karanja, Jatropha carcus) and edible oil (sunflower oil) are chosen for producing Bio-diesel. Various separation and Purification techniques are discussed with a detailed flow sheet Indicating reaction stage, Separation stage and purification stage various properties of this raw oils and Bio-diesel production from corresponding oils and petroleum diesel are compared.
    Features: Bio-diesel can be used in place of diesel. Applications of Bio-diesel oil in motors, diesel engines etc.
    Conclusion: Some research has to be undertaken to make bio-diesel a reliable and revolutionary fuel. It helps in making environment friendly technologies local resource energy options and employment opportunities
