    Research Activity :
“Effect of Agmatine on Nicotine Induced Conditioned Place Preference in Mice :- Modulation by a2-Adrenoceptor.”
Agmatine [2-(4-aminobutyl) guanidine] is an endogenous aminergic neurotransmitter that binds to multiple targets receptor in brain ex. N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor , inhibiting nitric oxide synthase (NOS), binding to a2-adrenoceptors etc. Its behavioral effects including antidepressant, antinociceptive, anxiolytic, anti-convulsant and implicated in the process of drug addiction. In present study, we used nicotine is an abused drug. It induces drug addictive behavior as demonstrated by conditioned place preference (CPP) experiments in animal. Agmatine which acts on nicotine CPP through the a2-adrenoceptor modulators ex. a2-adrenoceptor agonist Clonidine (30 µg/kg, i.p.), UK 14304 (0.1 mg/kg, i.p.) and a2-adrenoceptor antagonist yohimbine (5 mg/kg, i.p.), RX821002 (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.). We observed that, agmatine (10 mg/kg, i.p.) inhibited the nicotine CPP (1 mg/kg, i.p.) but due to a2-adrenoceptor modulators which alter the agmatine action. a2-adrenoceptor agonist increased the agmatine action and a2-adrenoceptor antagonist inhibited the agmatine action.
Thus present study clearly indicated that a2-adrenoceptor modulator alters the effect of agmatine on nicotine CPP.

    ACADEMIC PROJECT :
Title : “Oxidized LDL and oxidized phosphatidylcholine in atherosclerosis”. Under the guidance of Dr. Cletus J M D’Souza, Professor, Department of Studies in Biochemistry, University of Mysore, Manasagangotri. Mysore – 570006.

Aim and scope of the project work :
Since the phospholipids and fatty acids play a major role in atherosclerosis, the main objective of this study was to characterized the changes taking place in the fatty acid composition of oxidized LDL.
The fatty acid composition of phospholipids is greatly influenced by the dietary fatty acids. Hence we wanted to characterized the nature of fatty acids in the LDL particle and see what happens to these fatty acids on oxidation with Cu++ ions.

    Objective of the study :
The overall objective of the study was to study the changes taking place in the lipids and proteins of LDL particle on oxidation ,specific objective are :
    1. To prepare LDL from human serum by ultracentrifugation.
    2. To oxidize LDL by Cu++ ions and to characterize the changes in proteins and lipids.
    3. To standardize a simple assay for PLA2 and to test the stimulation of endogenous PLA2 by oxidation.

    DISSERTATION :
Title : NASH (Non alcoholic steato-hepatitis)
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most extreme form of NAFLD which is regarded as the major cause of cirrhosis of the liver. It is a condition that cause inflammation and accumulation of fat and fibrous tissue in the liver. NASH occurs in those who drink little to no alcohol. NASH has been observed for serious liver destruction and enhanced liver mortality. It has systemic consequences concerning insulin resistance, metabolic complications and cardiovascular diseases. NASH is seen more often in women than men.
