    Research Work :
During M.Sc. (Agri.) degree worked on “Somaclonal variation in Ragi (Eleusine coracana L.Gaertn )” to develop a protocol or methodology for induction of variability in finger millet. The study concludes that-
    - Callus can be initiated from mature embryo axes explant in all Finger millet genotypes on MS and B5 media, containing different 2,4-D and NAA concentrations.
    - The callus induction depended upon genotype, type of explant used and 2,4-D and NAA concentrations in the medium.
    - A wide range of variation was observed for callus induction as well as weight of callus and days to callus induction per explant.
    - Regeneration of plantlets could be obtained in Finger millet genotypes using mature embryo axes calli and epicotyl calli on media containing BAP and kinetin.
    - A considerable range of variability was observed for plantlet regeneration, days to initiation of first plantlet and for plantlet production per callus. The regeneration ability was determined by genotype, explant and cytokinins used.
    - The presence variability for callus induction and plantlet regeneration offers a great scope for creating somaclonal variation which may be utilized for improving varieties of Finger millet.
