PAINTING / COATING INSPECTOR :
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Generally, my duty and responsibility as QC Inspector is to implement the project specification and other approved quality documents such as, but not limited to QCP, ITP & MS.
- As Quality Assurance, I have to see to it that project specification and related standard were being implemented and strictly followed.
- See to it that proper documents such as quality procedure, personnel qualification and materials to be used were approved by the client prior to start the work.
- Proper documentation of work as per approved ITP
- Coordinated with production supervisor for planning the activity.
- Log, and if necessary to issue NCR/DR/LBE for non conformance activities/products.
- Upon the arrival of consumables, thoroughly check those items if the delivered consumables are conforming to client data sheets and necessary information are available in the container.
- Properly check the paint container, and if found leakage the suspected container shall be isolated in a quarantine area.
- Implementing the first in, first out for the consumables and see to it that the required temperatures for the storage are attained.
- Checking the shelf life for the consumables before releasing for usage.
- Verification for the expiration of calibration certificate and counter checking the tags/sticker for the corresponding equipment or instrument.
- Request for re-calibration for equipment/instrument prior to the date of expiry.
- Qualification for the coating personnel (Blaster and Applicator) and see to it that the people performing the job are client approved with valid Certificate from the client.
- Prior to start the surface preparation activity, necessary documents shall be secured from the previous discipline/activity to ensure that it is already release from them.
- Performing moisture test as per ASTM D4263 for the concrete before surface preparation.
- Pre-checking prior to start surface preparation and ensure that the surfaces are free from oil, grease, weld spatters are removed and rough welds and cu-off are ground
- Performed blotter test to ensure that the compressed air is not contaminated with oil, moisture and other contaminants that certainly affects the adhesion.
- Checked substrate temperature, dew point, and relative humidity prior to start the job.
- Checking the condition of abrasive and see to it that it is not contaminated or wet.
- Inspection of the blast cleaned surface (Surface Cleanliness & Degree of Roughness) as per client specification
- Prior to start the primer coat, inspection for the blasted surfaces to ensure that flash rust is not present.
- Ensure that the correct ratio of base and hardener (or thinner) is correct as per manufacturer data sheet.
- Randomly checking the WFT using the comb gauge to ensure that is meets the client requirements.
- Prior to second coat, inspections for the coated surfaces to ensure that there will no physical defects after the application for the first coat.
- After the final coat is dry, DFT measurements performed to verify the film thickness, if it is in the minimum – maximum requirements of client specification.
- Measuring the DFT for coated concrete using ultrasonic gauge (Positector 200)
- Prior to release the coated elements, holiday test are performed to ensure that it is free from pinholes, if pinholes are detected marks shall be done on affected area and instruction to be given to production to repair as soon as possible. After the repairs had been done, re-holiday test shall be done only in the repaired area.
- Witnessing the activity and inspection of blasting and coating in offshore, and see to it that the coated joints meet the required DFT and no holidays
- In charge in concrete coating (Pile Head Beam, Diaphragm, Cross Head Beams and Cable Channels)
- Issue RFI for client representative’s information and if hold points are required, follow up request for client representative’s presence through any means of communication is done.
- Witnessing the activity and inspection of blasting and coating in offshore, and see to it that the coated joints meet the required DFT and no holidays
- Verification and final inspection for touch up repair.
- Closing all the punch list items specially those items with outstanding NCR/DR or LBE
- Compilation of all quality records for client representative’s signature and final acceptance.
- To ensure that the main contractor conform and implement the PROJECT SPECIFICATION and approved procedure for Field Weld Coating using Stopaq (Normal Temp and High Temp).
- Ensure that continuity testing for the sacrificial anode will be done.
- Ensured that the FBE near the cut back and anode wire connection were free from and if holiday were found, witnessing the repair if there is, will be completed.
- Review of documents prior to final approval
BLASTING INSPECTION :
- Hardness, size, cleanliness and storage of the grit.
- Monitoring and verifying the conditions of pressure gauge, air filters and compressors.
- Monitoring and verifying the required pressure distance between blast surface and blast nozzle.
- Verifying the roughness of the blasted area, the surface profile along with elco meter and colour of the surface.
PAINTING STAGE INSPECTION:
- Verifying and maintaining the storage, batch and expiry of paints..
- Monitoring the air temperature, relative humidity, dew point and surface temperature.
- Verifying film thickness microns using wet / dry gauges.
