Job Summary :
As an Engineering Program Manager you will plan, lead, and manage engineering development programs. You will take an active role in leading a cross functional team, within NetApp’s matrix organization, focused on driving program execution from definition through successful release and transfer to operations. This is a challenging position working in a very fast paced environment, with the opportunity to work collaboratively with like professionals in the Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Global Services functions, and to positively influence greater business outcomes.

Essential Functions :
** Provide a leadership role to the program team of professionals from Engineering Management, Marketing, Operations, Finance and Global Services functions, to drive all pertinent issues related to the program life cycle.
** Programs will span sustenance as well as new product development.
** Work out the detailed plan and track the progress of the development project or project components through all phases of the lifecycle.
** Negotiates effectively with team members to define the team’s goals, approaches, work content, and schedules.
** Identify and communicate project scope, identify and manage risks, and ensure program milestones and objectives are met.
** Keep management informed of key issues and changes which may impact expected business results.
** Analyze problems and drive solutions involving multiple elements of program planning.
** Ensure that projects adhere to the company processes and initiate process improvements as needed.
** Clearly communicates team results to immediate management/product manager as well as to senior management.
** Establishes and maintains clear mechanisms to communicate program status and change within program team and other staff.
** Effectively communicate resource needs and program issues with management and coordinate resources and risk mitigation with other teams

Job Requirements :
** Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
** Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills are required.
** Excellent knowledge of product lifecycle, tools, processes and operations planning – particularly MS Project and Excel
** Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to meet aggressive goals and pre-defined metrics requirements.
** Demonstrated experience working with hardware and software development engineers on large systems projects – familiarity with configuration management and bug tracking systems.
** Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices.
** Creative approach to problem solving.
** Program Management training or demonstrated experience.
** Ability to develop longer-range project plans and schedules for individual or work for a small team.

** Responsibility :
** The tasks this individual is responsible are often unstructured and the issues addressed are less defined requiring new perspectives and creative approaches.
** This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation.
** Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions.

** Interaction :
** This individual must work effectively with engineering managers, the release management team, product management, employees: both within the function, and across functions.
** Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently.
** The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.
** To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and influencing others.

Education & Experience :
** A minimum of 8 years of experience is required. 9 to 11 years of experience is preferred.
** A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience is required.
** Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex projects.
** New Product Introduction experience is a plus – especially “systems” oriented products
