Duration : December 2008 to March 2009.
Role : Team Leader.
Team Size : 5
Environment : Embedded C, ATMEGA 16 Micro Controller.
Toll system on Indian highways uses the tradition way of stopping vehicles to collect toll amount. This, as we all know, hinders with the traffic flow. This project was conceived based on EU Toll Automation System and is aimed at creating a cost effective way of automating the toll plaza in India in such a way as to increase transaction security and government revenue. By automating the toll plaza, the vehicle would no longer be required to stop to pay the toll. Instead, the vehicles are fitted with transponders receiving encrypted signals from the automated toll plaza when within the range and responds back to the toll plaza with encrypted account information thus paying the toll using secured wireless network. Since this method does not involve any third party, it increases government’s revenue from PWD. Advanced technologies like GSM, GPS, GPRS, XBee etc., are used to establish secured communication between vehicle units & the toll plaza.
