Purpose of the Job :
The successful candidate will be an expert in DSP algorithm-design and implementation in FPGAs. He/She will be part of a skilled FPGA design team responsible for developing and maintaining high-end digital FPGA designs for Pace Networks video and data distribution equipment. These will be designed to meet Pace's architectural considerations and design specifications. It will be necessary to act as a specialist within the DSP field.

Principle Accountabilities :

Guided by the FPGA Development Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing DSP algorithms and implementing them in advanced FPGAs. The key responsibilities of the role are to :

* design robust, maintainable and cost effective designs to Pace requirements or specifications
* formalise DSP development processes and their integration with FPGA implementation
* provide a lead role both technically and for planning of DSP related features
* provide maintenance support for existing designs ensuring prompt rectification of problems
* understand the balance between coding and design time efficiencies for each design task undertaken
* work within Pace logic design processes for FPGA development
* plan time effectively and strive to deliver quality solutions within agreed schedules
* communicate clearly and effectively with the engineering team members in the UK and Bangalore
* develop specialist technical knowledge and skills that are relevant to the Company's core business

Qualifications, Skills & Experience :

Essential
* Educated to degree level or equivalent with at least 10 years experience and capability in DSP algorithm design and implementation in FPGA fabric.
* Experience in wideband digital communications (transmitters and receivers), at PHY and MAC layers, preferably for digital TV and datacomms
* Design experience using MATLAB, Simulink, System Generator and other industry standard DSP and FPGA development tools
* Knowledge of Digital Modulation and Forward Error Correction techniques
* Knowledge of RF systems and testing
* An understanding of FPGA architectures and how to get the best from them
* A systematic approach to design and problem solving
* A track record of planning and delivering DSP related work packages in a commercial environment
* Good interpersonal communication, written and reporting skills
* An ability to interact with professional teams and projects

Desirable
* Experience of RTL design and verification using VHDL
* Experience of embedded systems, particularly interfacing with SW engineers
* RF design experience
* Experience in design of DVB standards PHY layers (Modulator, Demodulator and FEC)
* Experience or knowledge of digital video distribution , Ethernet and DOCSIS
