Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai, is a premier National Laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The major areas of R & D thrust of the Centre include Structural Concrete Engineering & Technology, Sustainable Materials and Composites, &
Retrofitting/rehabilitation of Structures, Computational Structural Mechanics for Analysis and Design & Software Development, Transmission Towers, Metal Structure Behaviour & Fatigue and Fracture, Structural Health Monitoring and Evaluation & Forensic Analysis and Wind
Engineering and Earthquake Engineering. The Centre has built up excellent facilities for testing of structures and structural models, and also for mathematical modeling and simulation.
The Centre invites applications from highly qualified and motivated candidates for taking up R&D activities and also for providing engineering services to solve the problems of the industry and the society besides participating in the development of laboratory facilities.
I. SCIENTIST GR.IV[2] = TWELVE POSTS (UR-9, OBC-2 & ST-1)
Pay : Rs.18750 + Grade Pay of Rs.6600 in the Pay Band PB-3 Rs.15600-39100
The above posts are temporary but likely to continue. Besides pay, these posts carry
usual allowances as admissible under the Central Government rules. Higher initial pay can be
considered for exceptionally meritorious candidates. The total emoluments at the minimum of
the scale for the posts at present is Rs.46,148/- (including House Rent Allowance as applicable
for the city of Chennai.)
The service under CSIR/SERC is governed by the New Defined Contribution Pension
Scheme of Government of India as made applicable with effect from 1st January 2004. Further,
benefits such as Leave Travel Concession, Reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Conveyance
Advance and Housing loans are also available in accordance with Govt. of India/CSIR rules in
force.

Advertisement Number, Name of the Post applied for and full address in Block Letters must be
indicated at the top of the request which should be sent together with self-addressed and
duly stamped envelope [Rs.10.00] of size 22cm X 10cm. The last date for receipt of completed
applications is 30-07-2010 and it will be the cut off date for determining the age, qualifications
and experience of a candidate. Applications should be supported by (a) attested copies of
the certificates/testimonials relating to educational qualifications (including mark statements), (b)
date of birth, (c) experience and (d) community certificate in respect of SC/ST/OBC candidates
issued by the appropriate authority. Candidates should submit with each filled up application a
Crossed Demand Draft for Rs.100/- drawn in favour of I.R.F, SERC payable at Chennai
towards application fee. No fee for SC/ST candidates and regular employees of CSIR. Persons
with disabilities are also exempted from payment of application fee subject to submission of
prescribed medical certificate.
Applications from employees working in Government Departments, Public Sector
Organizations and Government funded research agencies will be considered only if forwarded
through proper channel with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within one month
of receipt of the appointment orders.
