Paper Presentations:
Operational performance prediction of hydrogen-fueled commercial transport.
Hydrogen is the ideal alternative fuel offering many benefits because liquid hydrogen has the highest energy content per weight of fuel, the fuel flight efficiency would roughly double, thus the effective range of an aircraft could be doubled.
This paper will summarize work being done to predict the operational performance of a hydrogen-fueled commercial trans-port. The engineering feasibility of a hydrogen-fueled aircraft is certainly possible, as has been researched for varying reasons since the 1950’s; however, the overall operational factors, both environmental and economic, have not been thoroughly factored into the results of such research.
Ultimately, the goal of this paper is to rate a hydrogen-fueled commercial transport on several factors key in the overall op-erational performance of commercial aircraft and to compare these ratings to similar modern kerosene fueled aircraft. A summary of the overall hydrogen aircraft design problem, proposed aircraft configuration, propulsion system, environmental emissions, and safety considerations is presented in this paper.
Computational Flow Field Analysis Over 2d And 3d Wings.
This work attempts to understand and visualize the flow field details over 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional wings of same airfoil section .The wing considered was of span 10 times the chord and a straight one the span ward movement of the flow in the 3D case in contrast to the 2D case caused by tip vortices generated is of the main interest of this paper and also the effective angle of at-tack change is also expected to be a result .the commercially available Navier-stokes solver , FLUENT is used for the simulations . flow simulations were done for inviscid and viscous cases using appropriate turbulence models and all the results are compared with theory and found in good agreement .
Unmanned Aerial vehicles with synthetic aperture radar
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a form of radar in which sophisticated post-processing of radar data is used to produce a very narrow effective beam and is received by Ground control station through various communication satellite technologies like GPS, KU–BAND and COMSAT etc. It is used with Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over relatively immobile targets. The main motive of this technical combination is the Aerial survey in war fields, but it has seen wide applications in remote sensing and mapping.
In future, this technology will play an important role in homeland security and anti-terrorism through the addition of new sensors to detect chemical, biological & radiological agents .For example the army wants to have a chem. /bio capability and able to detect land mines also.
Composites & Smart Materials
Composite materials are engineered materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different phys-ical or chemical properties and which remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level within the finished structure. Composites are ‘wonder’ materials with applications ranging from the humble saucepan handle, artificial limbs, to the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and the AGNI missile system including automobile, civil, ship-building and aerospace applications.
Smart materials have one or more properties that can be dramatically altered. Most everyday materials have physical proper-ties, which cannot be significantly altered. Each individual type of smart material has a different property which can be significantly altered, such as viscosity, volume, and conductivity. The property that can be altered influences what types of applications the smart material can be used for.
The present article gives a brief description of Composites & Smart materials starting with basic definition of composites, why we prefer these materials, and refers to advanced composite materials such as Carbon fibre, Carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), and the article ends up with the definition of smart material and their future applications in the design of flight vehicle, and structure technology for future Aerospace such as producing the Rotor control activation with smart materials which has the advantage of improving the vehicle performance, advance the technology exploitation process, and reduce system life-cycle costs.
