- Analysis and design of recreational building is to be built in Kamalanga, Orissa.
ACADEMIC PROJECT :
Effect of diaphragm flexibility on seismic response of building - In the analysis of buildings, the floor slab is usually assumed to be rigid in its own plane. However, for many buildings that are long and narrow or have stiff end walls, floor diaphragm flexibility must be accounted for in the distribution of lateral load. For buildings without shear walls, rigid-floor model is as accurate as the flexible model even for nonregular floor systems. The reason is that the in-plane stiffness of the slab is much larger than the out-of-plane stiffness of columns. It has been found that the rigid-floor assumption is accurate for buildings without shear walls, but it can cause errors for building systems with shear walls.
In this project, asymmetric buildings with different aspect ratios are considered and the analysis is carried out using ETABS software. The effect of openings in the diaphragm also studied. The analysis is carried out both by considering the diaphragm as rigid and flexible. Compare the results for flexible floor diaphragm and rigid floor diaphragm.
