N.P.T.I. TRAINING DETAILS
INSTITUTE PROFILE
National Power Training Institute (N.P.T.I.) was set up by Govt. of India to function as the National Apex body for Human Resource Development of Indian Power Sector since 1965. Besides its headquarters located at N.P.T.I. complex, sector 33, Faridabad–121003 (Harayana), it operates on all India basis through its Regional Training Institute.
NPTI conducts one-year Post Graduate Diploma Course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering, duly recognized by CEA. This course covers mandatory requirement under Indian Electricity (Amendments) Rule 1981, which stipulates that “No person shall be authorized to operate or undertake maintenance of any part or whole of generating station of capacity of 100 MW and above together with associated sub-station unless he is adequately qualified and has undergone the specified training at a recognized institute”. The four institute of NPTI is recognized for the purpose.
COURSE PROFILE
The Post Graduate Diploma Course in the Thermal Power Plant Engineering is of 52 weeks training program for Graduate Engineers, specially designed to provide a practical oriented training on operation and maintenance of thermal power plants. Plant visits for scheme tracing, on job training in operation and maintenance are arranged at MSEB, Khaperkheda Thermal Power Station (4/210 MW), (BHEL Design). Also guest faculty from MSEB Khaperkheda and Koradi Thermal Power Station are regularly invited in the institute for the specific lecture on various modules which gives valuable practical information regarding operation and manufacturing units.
In addition, plant visits are arranged to various other power station and power plant equipment manufacturing units.
The simulator training of two weeks duration gives the trainees hand-on experience in plant operation and emergencies in real life environment.
The program profile for simulator is as follows:
- Cold start up to 100% load.
- Partial load to full load and back to partial load maneuvering of different auxiliaries.
- Planned shut down.
- Over-rides and alarms during different exercises.
- Emergency operation with 150 malfunctions.
The simulator provides on unique opportunity for the trainees to experience full range of operation and stress situations faced during real operation. This is to give a feeling that the operator is running a real power plant. This will improve the reflexes in any sort of emergency in the Unit.
