    PROJECT DETAILS in B.Tech-PRODUCTION ENGINEERING :
    Project Name : MECHANICAL TESTING AND MICROSCOPIC EVALUATION OF GREY CAST IRON.
    Team Members : 5
    DISCRIPTION : Grey cast iron bars were casted in green sand and carbon dioxide sand moulds. Castings are made to produce bars of required dimensions. Tensile tests are performed on the bars according to IS 1608:1995.Tensile test results showed that there is a significant increase in the values of strength and hardness of carbon-dioxide casting when compared to green sand casting. Hardness tests are performed at top, middle and bottom portions of green and carbon dioxide sand straight bar castings on the Brinells hardness testing machine. Increments in the beneficial properties such as strength and hardness were shown to correlate well with the fraction of ferrite present and flake size associated with pearlite in the microstructure visualized through the metallurgical microscope before and after the process of etching. The microstructures of the top, middle and bottom ends of both the straight bars made from green sand and carbon-dioxide sands were shown.

    Description : The objective of this study was to analyze stresses and strains in the talus and the Ultra-High-Molecular-Polyethylene (UHMWPE) insert with two talar component designs Of the ankle implant. A three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) model Of the tibia, fibula, talus and the implant was developed for the study. An analytical Solution of two counter formal cylinders was derived and a two-dimensional cross sectional FEM model was included to investigate how the results of stresses in the UHMWPE correlate to the three-dimensional model.
