Boeing Commercial Airplanes is trying to convert the existing product definition data from the veteran version Catia V4 to the new generation version Catia V5. Where initially the
Data will be migrated from the DIRRECT database to ENOVIA LCA database and then Converted from V4 to V5 with all customer requirements.
- Study of Inputs like Boeing Design Manuals (BDM), Boeing Conversion manuals (BCM), Catia V4 Datasets, Input 2D Drawings.
- Estimation of the package and providing the Expected Completion Dates for each package (ECDs) to customer.

Title of the Project : - “EMPERICAL RELATIONS TO PREDICT THE PERCENTAGE OF REDUCTION OF ROOT FILLET STRESS INDUCED IN SPUR GEAR USING CIRCULAR STRESS RELIEF FEATURES”

This work presents the possibilities of percentage of reduction in the root fillet stress of spur gear by introducing circular stress relieving feature of various sizes at different locations. Two categories of systematic analyses are carried out using finite element model of spur gear. In the first category of analyses emphasize is given to determine the maximum root fillet stress which is required as reference to determine the stress reduction factor. In addition to this, the effect of number of teeth, pressure angle, and basic parameters of rack cutter on root fillet stress is investigated. In second category which is the prime focus of this work; the effect of introducing geometric stress relief feature is carried out. Circular stress relief feature of different size at strategic locations on a spur gear tooth are introduced. This reduces the root fillet stress.
Spur gear profile consists of root circle, addendum circle, involute curve and root fillet curve. The root circle and addendum circle can be readily created using the standard command but the involute and root fillet curve cannot be created directly. To calculate the set of points on tooth profile pertaining to involute and root fillet, which accepts the basic geometric parameters of rack cutter and gear as input. By using geometric parameters like rack cutter, profile shift factor, pressure angle and number of teeth, it is possible to compute the set of points for both involute and root fillet profile then these two curves can be modeled using splines passing through the set of points calculated. The accuracy of the profile can be increased by increasing the number of points on the profile. This can be achieved by giving smaller increment to rolling angle. Finally A gear model with a segment of three teeth is generated and a point load was applied at ‘Highest Point of Single Tooth Contact’ (HPSTC).
The program is coded in ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL). It automates the task of creation of model, meshing, applying boundary conditions, choosing the appropriate density of the mesh depending on the stress gradient. It also provides a means for defining the diameter and location of the circular stress relief features.

1) A Study on Dual Phase High Martensite Steel
Many of the structural components in machines, pressure vessels, transport vehicles, earth moving equipments, spacecrafts etc., are made of in the evaluation of fracture toughness and fatigue behavior of components is very essential in the design of pressure vessels, off-shore structures etc., which are subjected to loads of varying nature. These have different geometries and configuration, which give rise to stress concentration. As a result of the stress concentration effect crack can very easily initiate from these defects and propagate inside the materials. When these cracks reach the critical size then the failure of the component will take place. As dynamic loading and fatigue failure happen to be the primary concern in structural design, it was thought useful to study the fracture toughness and fatigue behavior of welded joints of Dual Phase (DP) steels in particular.
