I working as a senior registrar in Critical care medicine since august 2010. Our ICU is a mixture of trauma, neurosurgery, medical and surgical patients.
During my night calls I was in charge of ICU, it was challenging and demanding, where I was alone responsible for making critical decisions regarding patient management (airway, antibiotics, invasive procedures and monitoring), supervising the junior doctors posted under my care and dealing with medico-legal cases. It is a structured training programme in anesthesiology which has given me adequate exposure to Anesthesiology practice and skills. It is a 3 years training programme which includes specialty training in critical care, cardiac anesthesia and neuroanaesthesia.
Sundaram Medical Foundation is a community based multispecialty teaching hospital providing tertiary care in all specialties of medicine and surgery except cardiac surgery. It has a fully equipped critical care unit which is recognized for fellowship courses by National Board.
During my tenure I acquired skills in both regional and general anesthesia techniques. I am in charge of pre-anaesthetic clinic during my third year of training.
