www.gsi.gov.in The Geological Survey of India Training Institute Hyderabad
The Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) is the premier institution in the country imparting state-of-the-art training in different disciplines of Earth Science. GSITI has its headquarters at Hyderabad and conducts various training programmes through its six centres located at Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Lucknow (UttarPradesh), Zawar (Rajasthan), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Raipur (Chattisgarh), and Chitradurga (Karnataka).
The Institute has specialised divisions such as Photo Geology and Remote Sensing (PGRS), Geophysics and the Centre for Geoinformation Management Training (CGMT), all located at Hyderabad. GSITI since its inception in 1976 has conducted 654 training programmes (up to 2006-2007) and trained 13,114 geoscientists of GSI, other earth science organisations and universities of the country and also from foreign countries.
The training modules are designed with focus on fundamentals and applied aspects of geoscience viz., Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Natural Hazards, Remote Sensing, Drilling and Surveying. The Institute regularly conducts ISRO (Department of Space) sponsored training courses on Remote Sensing (NNRMS) and Geoinformatics for Disaster Management and DST sponsored training courses to cater to the needs of the universities (faculty members and research scholars), sister organizations and other outside agencies.GSITI’s Centre for Geoinformation Management Training (CGMT - erstwhile Proj: INDIGEO) is equipped with state-of-the-art computer facilities and imparts training using ArcGIS, AutoCAD Map, ERDAS Imagine etc., for capturing, manipulating, processing and visualization of geoscientific data. Courses designed for strengthening the application of digital techniques in geoscientific data processing on GIS platforms have been in great demand and CGMT is fully equipped to meet such demands from time to time.
The centre has been carrying out a course using high resolution satellite data for landslide zonation and hazard risk management for the last two years with technical collaboration with ITC under a joint agreement between GSI, ITC & NRSA. Training courses have also been designed for our technical and administrative officials.
GSITI has the capability to conduct customized courses for other organisations by sponsorship and / or through collaboration. The Institute had earlier conducted DST sponsored five year cycles of SERC summer / winter school programmes through which training was imparted to faculty members and research scholars of various universities and personnel from sister organizations. Programmes meant exclusively for personnel from the Govt. of Bhutan and training in Marine Geophysical Survey for the officers of the Indian Navy are among a few of the prestigious courses conducted by GSITI. Special training programmes on GIS and engineering geology for AP State Ground Water Dept., NTPC and Northern Railway and a training programme on Geochemical Mapping for the officers of GMRDS, Gujarat Government were conducted in F.S. 2006-07.
The Training Institute encourages outside sister organizations both from government / public sectors and other agencies to participate in the departmental training programmes as well as for conducting separate programmes as per their need with a nominal fee. Geological organizations from NER can avail the same facility for which fee can be exempted on case to case basis. Any organization interested to join the training courses as per this calendar, or desirous of getting customized courses organized exclusively for their personnel, may send due request to the TI Headquarters, detailing specific requirements.
General Information
[LIST][*]The exact date and venue of commencement of each of the programmes will be informed in advance. [*]Accommodation is provided free of charge to the trainees at Chitradurga, Raipur, Ranchi and Zawar Centres. Dear Sir/ Madam
RE : APPLICATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP IN GIS AND REMOTE SENSING
I am applying for the scholarship training in your institution especially in GIS and Remote Sensing to advance my knowledge and skills either long term or short term am available, in our organization we are producing maps for the entire country. So we are lacking more skills being the problem of funds to advance our skills.
I have a Certificate in Site Surveying, Plumbing and Diploma in GIS and Earth Observation which I obtained in June 2009 at the Ardhi University in Tanzania Dar es Salaam. I am currently working at the Department of Geological survey as Cartographer.
I have enclosed my CV and copies of my certificates, references this application.
I hope my application will be considered.
Yours faithfully

DETERMINATIONATION OF A SUITABLE RECREATIONAL AREA FOR ARDHI UNIVERSITY.
The Problem;
Currently the ARU faces the problem of insufficient recreational area where students and staff can go for leisure. Due to this problem staff and students are forced to go outside the campus for leisure.
The purpose of this study is to determine area which will be suitable for Recreation due to the fact that this will reduce the number of students and staff who are going outside the campus for leisure.
Objective;
- To determine Recreation area inside the ARU campus
- To produce updated Topographic Map of ARU
- To produce a web map
- To produce map in digital form which locate the suitable Recreational area in ARU.
- GIS and Earth Observation Individual Project – Ardhi University (Tanzania) 2009
DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF GEOLOGICAL DATABASE OF JWANENG (BOTSWANA).
The Department of Geological Survey is still behind in technology in terms of the way geological information is stored and given out to the public. Unplanned of developments by stakeholders and individuals that leads to lack of information about the geology that leads to people drilling boreholes anywhere and becomes bad situation whereby they can even drill it into a harmful bedrock which will contains harmful minerals and also building the infrastructure in a certain issue whereby the soil type is not suitable for that facilities. It is still done manually, which has over the years resulted in serious problems such as :
- Accessing of geological data.
- Distortion of information due to storage.
- Difficulty in finding geological information on the mapping sheets as it is done manually.
- Continuous flow of individuals entering the geological data which stores original geological maps which leads to data redundancy.
PURPOSE :
It is my hope with the application, information as it relates to geological data will be stored and retrieved electronically thus reducing the problems mentioned above.
- ArcGIS Desktop II : Tools and Functionality - Enviromental Systems Research Institute South Africa (Pty) Ltd trading as ESRI South Africa :
I have attended 5 Days course at the above institute in South Africa and obtained a Certificate in ArcGIS Desktop II : Tools and Functionality. This course introduces to the tools and functionality of ArcGIS and how to use layers, symbology, and map elements to create maps and visualize geographic information using ArcGIS 10. The following are the topics that we learned in order to use this knowledge , along with additional tools, to analyse geographic data, derive new data, and solve geographic problems which am now capable of doing that:
- Introducing map layers
- Managing map layers
- Symbolizing categorical data
- Symbolizing quantitative data
- Working with labels and annotations
- Making a map layout
- Investigating geographic data
- Using coordinate systems and map projections
- Managing tables
- Editing features and attributes
- Creating geodatabases and feature classes
- Getting locations from tabular data
- Solving spatial problems with analysis
