Job Description:
The position of Assistant research scientist involves adapting and delivering new technologies to farmers in Eastern / Southern Gangetic plains (as may be the case). The Assistant research scientists need to work closely with the hub manager, CSISA hub (Central Bihar, Eastern UP , Cauvery Delta), the technical working groups (TWG) of the hubs, and a range of stakeholders, including private and public enterprises. Specifically, the Assistant research scientists will be required to:
Implement action plans for technology delivery and facilitate interventions to address bottlenecks in the hub domain.
Implement effective communication and extension capacity building strategies with an emphasis on local content and front-line activities with extension staff, farmers, and private sector professionals.
Facilitate fine-tuning of new technologies for greater adoption in areas under the influence of the hub.
Provide critical feedback on past experiences and risks involved in different models and partnerships.
Innovate new ideas for faster delivery of farm worthy technologies
Improving availability of seeds of new varieties using farmer participatory seed multiplication program
Report to the Hub Manager with oversight by the CSISA delivery coordinator.
Key Performance Indicators:
Technology evaluation, refinement, out-scaling, and production of targeted cereals seeds.
Large-scale adoption of new technologies and project targets are met.
Impact calculated and lessons learned documented.
Duty locations
Assistant research scientists will be located in Bihar (two positions), Eastern UP (one position) and Cauvery Delta (two positions).
Desired Candidate Profile:
Minimum Education:
Masters degree in agricultural sciences, preferably in crop production, agronomy, soil science, farm machinery or agricultural business.
Experience required:
Basic knowledge of modern agricultural production and post-harvest technologies for cereal-based cropping systems, with particular emphasis on conservation agriculture.
Experience in fine-tuning agricultural technologies for effective application to different environments and incorporating farmer participation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability and desire to work with the farmers in complex agro eco regions.
Preferred skills include:
Good computer skills for communication and data handling.
Good English writing skills for reporting progress. .
Other requirements:
Must be fluent (spoken and written) in the local language at the duty location.

The Assistant Research Scientists (2 in Bihar, 1 in Eastern UP and 2 in Cauvery Delta) will assist respective hub manager in delivery and adaptive research of cereal production technologies.
