    The Institute
    Established in 1978, IDI the most coveted institute in the field of diamonds, gems & jewellery in India is a state-of-art school of learning, everything within the campus, under one roof.

    Recognizing the Indian Diamond Industry as a major source of employment in a priority sector like export production with scope for substantial value - addition for the country, the establishment of the Indian Diamond Institute was conceptualized and later put into effect.

    The IDI is a Society registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 and also under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. The IDI is ISO 9001:2000 certified for Design Development and provision of Training, Consultancy & Certification Services related to Diamonds, Coloured Stones & Jewellery. W.e.f.     Diploma Program Overview :
    This Programmes is designed to produce the “Rough Diamond Planner” to meet the demands of skilled professionals in the Sorting & Planning areas. The candidates completing this very Programmes shall be able to study diamond crystal structures, sort diamond according to shape, size & purity, plan diamonds according to shape, size & purity, plan diamonds for manufacturing in the best way possible so as to get maximum yield keeping the other factors such as symmetry, clarity etc. perfect. Candidates shall also be exposed to cutting techniques to enable them to plan diamond with high level of accuracy.

    Bruiting : 6 weeks (2 ˝ hrs / day)
    Rough Assortment: : 8 week ( 2 ˝ hrs / day)
    Planning & Marking (Manual) : 6 weeks (2 ˝ hrs / day)

    Computerized Diamond :
    Planning: (Helium) 4 weeks (2 ˝ hrs

    Timing :
    Monday to Friday only

    Either of the following (depending on the availability & as decided by the management of the institute)

    08.00 – 10.30 or 10.30 – 13.00 or 14.15 – 16.45 or 17.00 – 19.30 hrs.

    History of diamonds, basics of bruiting, bruiting machines, importance of bruiting, planning of diamond for bruiting, bruiting tips & techniques, yield recovery, fixing of diamonds, machine maintenance.

    Crystallography, importance of planning & marking, planning & marking techniques, computer-aided diamond designing by using latest computerized diamond planner.

    Diamond identification, history & occurrences of diamonds, sieving, sorting terminology, sorting in to colour, sorting into clarity, sorting for manufacturing-markeable, sawable, cleavable, Instruments used for the processes.

    2. DIPLOMA IN DIAMOND GRADING
    Programmes Overview :
    This programme is designed to produce the “Diamond Graders” to meet continuous growing demands of the trade & industry. Those completing the programme should be able to sort out polished diamond and grade them as per domestic & international standard with respect to 4Cs i.e Carat, Cut, Color & Clarity. Candidates shall be, although directly not related, exposed to polishing techniques to enable them to particularly grade Cut parameters with higher level of accuracy.

    Training Schedule :
    Polishing : 4 week (2 ˝ hrs / day)
    Domestic Grading: : 8 week (2 ˝ hrs / day)
    Grading Intl. Standards: : 4 week (2 ˝ hrs / day)
    Microscopic Study: :

    2 week (2 ˝ hrs / day)
    Timing :
    Monday to Friday only

    Either of the following (depending on the availability & as decided by the management of the institute).

    Basics of polishing, polishing direction, polishing grain, polishing tips & techniques, maximum yield recovery, manufacturing defect, machine maintenance.

    Sieving, Grading of Polished Diamond and Instruments used, Colour Grading, Clarity Grading, Grading for cut according to local/domestic market. Valuation of Diamond as per local market.

    Grading of Polished Diamonds Gauging of Diamonds, Colour Grading using Natural Master Stones (GIA), Clarity Grading using Microscope & microscopic study, Grading for cut using Sarin. Hearts & Arrow Cut, Identification of Moissanite, Practice exclusively on diamonds graded by IDI, valuation of bigger size of Diamonds.

    Microscope studies on diamonds about their inclusions & blemishes, its plotting, introduction to HPHT diamonds & synthetic diamonds.

    An overview of various instrument like Diamond view, Diamond sure, FTIR, UV-VIS etc.
