Name : Chandrasekar KUPPAN
Email : ramachan16 AT hotmail.com
Designation / Skillset : Ph.D in Polymer Chemistry with 3 years of postdoctoral experience
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Chandrasekar KUPPAN and I would like to apply for a suitable post in your group. For your kind perusal I have attached my CV along with this application.
My research interest and experiences in the field of polymers are as follows in chronological order. My last postdoctoral work in UCL, Belgium involves, synthesis of light sensitive block copolymers by ATRP and study their properties in solution upon exposure to UV light. The interesting property of these light sensitive polymers is that they can entrap any potential molecules from drugs to metal nanoparticles during their self assembly process initiated by photo cleavage. Here we investigated the simultaneous reduction of Pd nanoparticle precursor and cleavage of light sensitive group from the block polymer chain to form micellar structures with Pd nanoparticle core. The nanostructures were investigated by DLS, AFM, TEM, UV and Fluorescence. The formed nanoparticles were found to be stable and can be used as a potential candidate for many organic reactions as catalyst.
During my earlier post doctoral programme in PCI, France, I was given a project which involves the study of amphiphilic block copolymers derived from styrene, acrylic acid and n-butyl acrylate - their synthesis and physicochemical characteristics in water. For synthesis we employed one of the controlled radical polymerization (CRP) technique i.e. atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The solution structures in aqueous media were studied using dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS) techniques. For some of the systems we tried to do rheology measurements also. This postdoctoral position has elevated my research capacity in the field of CRP and self assembled structures in water and I was enthusiastic in learning more in this field or research fields which are similar.
I would also like to mention my research activities I carried out during my Doctoral (Ph.D) study. My Ph.D. work deals with the design, synthesis and organization characteristics of water soluble polymeric amphiphiles derived from dodecyl or octadecyl or maleyl or cholesteryl hydrophobic groups at different interfaces and their potential as Hydrogels were also studied. During that period of research, I learned various aspects pertaining to the synthetic methodology of new polymerization techniques such as free radical, emulsion polymerization, ATRP in order to develop water soluble polymeric amphiphiles with different architectures. Using one of these methodologies, we synthesized ionic polymeric amphiphiles derived from acrylamido methyl propane sulfonic acid and above mentioned hydrophobic units. The study on the characterization and physico chemical properties of these polymers made me to learn and become well verse in various techniques such as Fluorescence, NMR, FTIR, TGA, DSC, GPC/SEC, Viscosity, Tensiometry both liquid/air (Surface Tension) and liquid/liquid (Interfacial Tension), Langmuir Blodgett technique, XRD, Optical microscopy, Circular Dichroism. I have experience in silane chemistry during my Ph.D programme, from which I have published an article in Polymer journal.
As part of my research curriculum, I have published my research finding in internationally reputed journals like Biomacromolecules, Journal of Polymer Science and Polymer. I have the capability of carrying independent as well as collaborate research with novel approach to the problem. Even though I am very much familiar with the above said areas, I am confident that I can deliver good results in other areas of polymer and surfactant chemistry. Apart from these, I have learning aptitude for other methodologies and techniques in the field of chemistry. I have a keen sense of curiosity, passion to learn and innovate things of high quality. With my leadership and communication skills I am confident that I can convert my thoughts and ideas into real products.
To nourish my capability and curiosity in the area of polymers as I mentioned above, I would like to apply for a post and I believe this opportunity will be appropriate in mounting my skills. I believe that you may consider me as a suitable candidate to work in your research group. To know more about my experience and interest, I am herewith attaching my resume for your kind perusal.
With regards
Chandrasekar.K
