    Research Experience
    -
    Thesis project of MD (Microbiology) entitled : “Incidence of Opportunistic Fungal Infections In Patients With Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome”.
    The study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology, Govt. Medical College, Amritsar. It comprised of one hundred fifty HIV seropositive symptomatic patients suspected of having fungal infection attending ICTC attached to department of Microbiology, GMC, Amritsar, ART centre, various wards and OPDs of Guru Nanak Dev and attached hospitals GMC, Amritsar.
    All the patients were evaluated after taking informed consent by a pre designed protocol covering the bio-data, history, including high risk behaviour, mode of transmission, marital status, partner status, presenting complaints and physical examination. The HIV status of the patient was confirmed by various available R/S (rapid/simple) assay tests. Counselling of the patients was done in case not done before as per guidelines of NACO/SACO. The history of treatment with Anti retroviral drugs and CD4+ count was recorded before collecting the relevant samples. The project had following aims & objectives.
    -
    To determine the incidence of various fungi causing fungal infections in HIV seropositive patients attending ICTC attached to Department of Microbiology, ART centre, various wards and OPDs of Guru Nanak Dev and hospitals attached to GMC, Amritsar.

    To find out the correlation of occurrence of oppurtunistic fungal infections in HIV seropositive patients with their immunological status in reference to their CD4+ count.

    To identify various other risk factors for development of these oppurtunistic fungal infections in HIV seropositive patients.

    Relationship of CD4 count with opportunistic cryptosporidium infection in HIV positive patients.

    ESBL production in pseudomonas isolates from various clinical specimens.

    Methicillin resistance among various clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and Coagulase negative staphylococcus.
