    Job Description:

    Purpose/Summary:
    Manage the dry cargo claims to thereby:

    Provide overall management for dry cargo claims.
    Provide effective and efficient handling of cargo claims, P & I and other claims matters with aim to reduce costs of claims in cooperation with the commercial and operation sides of Maersk Line ensuring that customers receive fair and upright treatment.
    Simplify business processes and enhance efficiency
    Adjust Maersk Line cargo claims arising out of dry shipments. Supervise staff members. Develop, implement and administer effective loss prevention programs designed to reduce the financial impact to Maersk Line resulting from dry cargo claims by customers and dissatisfaction caused by such claims. Mitigate Maersk Line and affiliates’ expenses and/or exposure by salvaging unclaimed/unwanted cargo.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Define/establish Key Performance Indicators and monitor performance against such KPI’s
    Responsible for establishing and following up on budgets and actual financial results
    Reduce global annual spend of claims pay-out
    Handle notified cargo claims, customs fines, stowaway cases, ad hoc insurances, deviations and other claims and P&I related matters
    Initiate action to improve global claims handling process and procedures
    Review and approve settlement of claims exceeding local settlement authority
    Make recommendation, initiate and pursue appropriate claims prevention measures
    Maintain contact and provide notification to P&I club(s) regarding matters of principle, club cover, legal advice and guidance
    Assist and advise the global claims organisation when and where needed on claims handling, legal issues and general risk management
    Initiate training when and where needed
    Assist in recovering claims from responsible 3rd parties
    Improve knowledge and skills within area of responsibility through contact with insurers, clubs, reading of professional literature, participation in courses and seminars

    Relevant management experience, preferably from functions within Line and/or Agency management
    Knowledge—in-depth familiarity with Maersk Line’s operations, including vessel, terminals, and rail/truck; in-depth familiarity with Maersk’s bill of lading terms and applicable bodies of law, including U.S. COGSA and Hague - Hague/Visby Rules; proficiency in utilising electronics media to effectively/efficiently locate helpful information in adjusting claims
    Communications—effective negotiation/persuasion skills; good writing skills to effect negotiation/persuasion logically and concisely
    Interpersonal—must work well with others (superiors, peers, subordinates, experts and customers) and maintain good relationships under adversarial conditions
