Area : Applied Linguistics
Title : English Spoken by Doctors in Tamil Nadu : A Socio-Phonological
Study (Nov 1996).
Abstract
Specimens of English Spoken by Post – graduate Doctors were recorded and analyzed. The segmental and non-segmental features of their speech were found out, and they were compared with the Received Pronunciation (R.P.) of England. The findings show that social factors like the teacher’s influence, the medium of instruction, etc., seem to have a significant impact on the segmental and non – segmental features of English spoken by the Doctors.
