PROJECT NAME :Home Media Server Using UPnP

Project work :
The facilities provided were,
1. Connecting to any DLNA certified device within the network.
2. Media streaming,uploading.
3. Any number of devices within the network can be connected to each other.
4. A single media file can be shared simultaneously.
5. The device can be accessed without any manual configuration.
My Role and Responsibilities :
I was responsible for all the documentations and reviews of the project. Apart from this, I also coded the major modules for our project.
Description : The project is about implementing the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) to the router which runs on Linux. The main objective of the project is to stream the media content to any devices in the network which are DLNA certified. The core part of our project is the router (model name:wrt160nl Linksys).Since Linux OS is an open source, we can code applications as per our requirements. The UPnP runs above the TCP/IP layer. Hence any network medium can be used to reach the router. Since UPnP uses DHCP, any device can easily enter into the network without any manual configuration. It can be by means of Wi-Fi, LAN or internet. As the device comes into the network it introduces itself by specifying whether it is renderer, server or control point. Once the device comes into the network, the working is automatically configured and this configuring responsibility is completely of UPnP.

1) Linksys wrt160nl (model name)
2) Runs on Linux OS
3) Atheros processor
4) Wi-Fi enabled.
5) 2.4 GHz frequency(range of Wi-Fi network),300Mbps bandwidth.
6) USB 2.0 port.
