About the Job
As an Akamai Technical Solutions Engineer you will be an integral member of a team responsible for quickly resolving highly technical, complex issues and providing solutions to customer problems. You will be critical in maintaining the trust of our customers (which include many Fortune 500 corporations). You will work with our customers' technical operations teams to define the issue, resolve it, or enlist a cross-functional team to resolve it.
You will be involved in all technical aspects of Akamai network services and applications. You will work closely with the engineering and support teams to share knowledge, deliver the best possible service for our customers, and improve Akamai by developing tools and ideas based on customer feedback.
Desired Candidate Profile:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clearly communicate with customers via telephone and email to ensure that you understand the issue and they understand the resolution.
- Work independently with our customers' technical teams on post-sales technical issues. The investigation of technical issues may involve data analysis from Akamai's distributed network and an in-depth examination of the interaction between Akamai and the customer's web server infrastructure.
- Work closely with and manage issue-specific cross-functional teams composed of Engineering, Operations, Sales, Professional Services, and Account Management representatives.
- Define requirements and develop tools/scripts to automate troubleshooting.
- Develop methods and best practices for delivering outstanding service.
- Define, coordinate, and prioritize customer feedback and ideas into engineering requirements for future enhancements to Akamai's services. Work closely with Engineering and Product Management to implement these enhancements.
- Should be willing to work flexible work hours primarily US EST / PST
- Experience in engineering, systems administration, engineering support, IT, project management or consulting (3-8 years).
- Hands on experience with Linux or UNIX with networking exposure.
- Experience with UNIX data manipulation utilities (awk, sed) and regular expressions.
- Programming experience (Perl/shell scripting or Java/C preferable).
- In depth knowledge of how the Internet works (HTTP, DNS).
- Knowledge of common network protocols (TCP/IP) and tools (ping, traceroute).
- Familiarity with the following: J2EE or .NET, XML Webservices, Databases and Webserver administration.
- Strong analytical skills and English verbal and technical writing skills.
- Great problem solvers and can resolve complex, highly technical issues.
- Creative and able to "think-out-of-the-box", propose and implement new Solutions for customers
- Excellent communicators who can disseminate information in a clear and correct manner to both business and technical audiences
- Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities, commitments and projects
- Strong team players who enjoy working in a fast paced team atmosphere
